What is ANANTA?
ANANTA is an upcoming free-to-play urban open-world RPG from NetEase and its studio Naked Rain. It was first announced as Project Mugen at Gamescom 2023; NetEase later confirmed the ANANTA name and described the setting as Nova City, where the player character works as an agent of the Anti-Chaos Directorate (A.C.D.). NetEase’s announcement outlines that premise.
The current official site presents the player as a new captain of a special task force, assembling a team and responding to threats while deciding how to spend time around the city. That is the publisher’s current description, not a hands-on assessment of how the story or activities play.
Is ANANTA a free GTA 6 alternative?
It may appeal to players curious about a large urban game, but “free GTA 6 alternative” is a hook rather than a promise that the games are interchangeable. Both are framed as urban open-world games; the available information does not establish that ANANTA shares GTA’s crime-focused story, realism, structure or scale.

In a TechRadar interview, Naked Rain said the team appreciated the comparison and believed the games could coexist, while pointing to differences including art style and character stories. The studio’s distinction matters: ANANTA is presented as an anime-style RPG, not as a free version of Grand Theft Auto.
What gameplay has been announced?
NetEase’s announcements and trailers describe an A.C.D. investigation into threats in Nova City, alongside combat, challenges, neighborhood exploration, interactive locations, NPCs and urban activities. Those are publisher-described features; they do not demonstrate how deep, polished or complete each system is.

What platforms will ANANTA be on?
NetEase’s September 22, 2025 announcement named PC, PlayStation 5 and mobile. The current official site displays PC, PlayStation, Apple and Android links or icons. The exact mobile device support and PC hardware requirements have not been established in the cited official material.
Is ANANTA really free to play, and how will it make money?
NetEase labels ANANTA free-to-play. In the TechRadar interview, the developers said they did not plan character gacha and that monetization would primarily focus on character skins. Treat that as a reported development intention, not a final launch policy or a complete account of every paid item; plans can change before release.
