What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Short answer: Bloxstrap’s developers say it is not malware, but that is the project’s own claim—not an independent guarantee for every download. Get it only from the project’s official website or GitHub repository, and don’t treat a Windows warning as either proof of malware or a reason to ignore it.
What Bloxstrap is—and what the safety claim means
Bloxstrap is a third-party Windows launcher and bootstrapper for Roblox, not a Roblox game or an official Roblox product. The Bloxstrap project’s GitHub README answers “Is this malware?” with “No,” and its FAQ says the software is open source and “completely clean on VirusTotal.” Those are statements from the publisher, not the result of an independent security audit established here. The FAQ does not identify a specific installer hash or provide a scan report for a particular release, so its general VirusTotal statement should not be read as a verified result for the file on your PC.
Open-source code lets people inspect the project, but it does not by itself prove that an executable downloaded from an arbitrary website is authentic or matches that code. The project also says Bloxstrap is digitally signed through the SignPath Foundation. A signature can help identify a publisher and whether a file has changed since signing; it does not establish that every file using the Bloxstrap name is genuine or guarantee that software is harmless.
Where to download Bloxstrap safely
The project names two official sources: the Bloxstrap website and the official GitHub repository. Its FAQ warns that other sites impersonate the project. A search-result ranking, familiar logo, or similar domain is not proof that a download is authentic. Avoid third-party mirrors and sponsored look-alike download pages.

If you want to confirm the current version, use the official GitHub releases page. It lists v2.11.4 as released on 5 August 2026. The repository also describes Bloxstrap as not under active development, so check current project information and compatibility rather than assuming Roblox or Windows changes will be addressed. The release date alone does not establish that a particular copy is safe.

What to do if Windows warns you
The Bloxstrap repository says Microsoft SmartScreen may warn on first run because Bloxstrap is an unknown program. That kind of unfamiliar-app warning is not, by itself, a confirmed malware detection. It is also not a reason to bypass the warning automatically: first establish where the file came from and inspect the publisher and signature details available in Windows. If you cannot verify the source, don’t run it.
- Downloaded from an unofficial site: Don’t open the file. Delete it and obtain a fresh copy from the official website or repository. Use your installed security software to check the file or your PC; no scan result for your specific download is established here.
- Downloaded from an official source but still unsure: Check that the address is exactly one of the project’s stated sources and review the file’s publisher/signature details. If Windows reports a specific threat rather than only an unfamiliar-app warning, take that detection seriously and follow your security software’s guidance.
- Already ran a file you can’t verify: Run a scan with your installed security software and follow its findings. If it identifies a threat, use its recommended quarantine or removal steps; don’t assume the file is safe merely because it used the Bloxstrap name.
Dependencies, updates, and network activity
The official site lists the Microsoft .NET 6 Desktop Runtime as a requirement. Bloxstrap’s privacy policy says analytics are optional and describes connections used for ordinary functions: GitHub for updates and mod presets; Roblox for launch settings and updates; AWS, Akamai, or Cachefly for Roblox downloads; and Microsoft for optional WebView2 downloads. Network activity associated with these services is not, on its own, evidence of malware, but the policy helps explain why the launcher may contact more than one service.
