The key distinction is whether you play solo/offline or connect to public multiplayer. A community patch project warns that unpatched Black Ops III still has dangerous exploits, but its claims are not an independent security audit or a guarantee that all vulnerabilities are fixed. If you want to play online, treat public matchmaking as uncertain rather than proven safe.
What “safe” means for BO3 on PC
There are two different questions: whether your PC can run the game, and whether connecting to other players is safe. Steam lists Call of Duty: Black Ops III for Windows with Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies modes. That establishes PC availability, not a security assurance for online play. Steam’s BO3 listing does not certify that public lobbies are free of security risks.
The available warning comes from the maintainers of the community project T7Patch. They say unpatched BO3 still has dangerous exploits and recommend using a community patch/client. Treat that as a maintainer warning, not an official Activision advisory or proof that a patch closes every current vulnerability. T7Patch’s official GitHub repository is the place to check its current guidance.
How play mode changes the decision
| How you play | What the available guidance says | Practical takeaway |
|---|---|---|
| Solo or offline | T7Patch’s maintainers distinguish non-matchmaking sessions and advise setting a network password for them. The reviewed sources do not establish that solo play is risk-free. T7Patch README | Keeping play offline avoids public matchmaking exposure, but do not treat that alone as a security guarantee. |
| Public matchmaking | The T7Patch project warns about unpatched exploits; the reviewed sources do not establish that public matchmaking is safe or that a particular patch makes it so. T7Patch README | Do not assume a public lobby is risk-free. Consider whether you are comfortable with unresolved uncertainty before connecting. |
| Non-matchmaking online session | T7Patch’s maintainers advise using a network password; everyone joining needs the same password. This is their guidance, not independent validation. T7Patch README | Check the current project instructions and coordinate the password with every participant. |
What a community patch can—and cannot—tell you
T7Patch describes itself as a community patch for BO3 exploits. Its maintainers recommend it for PC and describe a network-password option for sessions outside matchmaking. Those are useful signals about the project’s purpose, but they do not establish independent testing, complete coverage of vulnerabilities, or a guarantee of safety.

Compatibility also depends on the game build. A separate fork says it includes upstream security patches and was updated for the February and September 2026 game updates. That is the fork maintainer’s compatibility claim; it does not demonstrate that the underlying game is fully safe or that every exploit has been addressed. The fork’s GitHub repository is the source for that claim.
SteamDB records a BO3 Steam build dated February 19, 2026, and says official patch notes were unavailable for it. A new build by itself is not evidence of a security fix. SteamDB’s BO3 patch history can help identify a build, but it cannot substitute for official security notes or a security audit.

Check PC compatibility separately from online safety
Steam’s listed minimum Windows requirements for BO3 are a 64-bit Windows 7/8/8.1 system, Intel Core i3-530 or AMD Phenom II X4 810 processor, 6 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 470 1 GB or Radeon HD 6970 1 GB graphics, DirectX 11, broadband internet, and 100 GB of storage. These are minimum game requirements from Steam’s product listing, not safety measures or guarantees of performance.
There is an important operating-system distinction: Steam lists older Windows versions in BO3’s game requirements, but says its client has supported Windows 10 and later since January 1, 2024. An older minimum listed for the game does not mean the current Steam client supports that older operating system. Check Steam’s listing for the game requirements and client note.

Do TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot make BO3 safer?
Activision’s TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot guidance applies to specified newer Call of Duty games, including Black Ops 7 and Warzone. It does not establish that BO3 requires TPM 2.0 or Secure Boot, and it does not show that enabling those features fixes BO3 multiplayer security issues. Activision’s guidance is about the titles it names.

A cautious checklist before playing online
- Decide whether you need online play; solo/offline play avoids public matchmaking, but is not established as risk-free.
- If considering T7Patch, use its official repository and confirm that the current instructions match your installed BO3 build.
- For a non-matchmaking session, follow the maintainers’ current network-password guidance and ensure all players use the same password.
- Do not infer that a Steam update fixed security issues unless official notes establish that; the February 19, 2026 build record does not include official patch notes.
- Do not treat TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, or antivirus software as proof that a BO3 lobby is safe; the reviewed sources do not support those conclusions.
