The storefront rebranded as Loaded in September 2025, though many shoppers still know it as CDKeys. Before buying, check the exact platform and region, understand where to turn if redemption fails, and compare the final price with the platform store.
What happened to CDKeys?
CDKeys announced on 26 August 2025 that it was changing its name to Loaded, with the new name taking effect in September. The company said its catalogue contained more than 15,000 titles; that is Loaded’s own figure, not an independently audited count. Loaded’s rebrand announcement explains the change.
The new name does not alter the basic transaction described by the retailer: you buy a digital code and redeem it on the relevant platform. The former CDKeys FAQ said keys typically arrived immediately and advised contacting support if one had not arrived after 10 minutes. Treat that as the seller’s published guidance, not a guarantee of current delivery timing; check the live listing for its terms. The old FAQ now redirects.
Why can the prices be lower?
The old CDKeys FAQ attributed lower prices to buying from suppliers around the world and avoiding physical postage. A current indexed Loaded category page describes bulk buying through partners. Those are the retailer’s explanations; they do not independently establish how a particular code was sourced or whether its resale was authorized by the publisher. Loaded’s PC-games category includes product and regional-compatibility descriptions.

A low price alone does not show that a code is invalid or improperly sourced. Nor does it prove that a code will work in your country. The old FAQ also claimed average savings of about £18, $21, or €20 per purchase, but the available text gives no study, method, or publication year. That figure should not be treated as an independently verified saving.
What can go wrong with a code?
As with any third-party code purchase, the practical risk is that the listing may not match your platform or account region, or that a code may fail when redeemed. BBB complaint records include individual reports alleging used, invalid, expired, or region-mismatched codes, alongside disputes about support and refunds. The BBB says it does not verify all profile information or endorse the business. These reports are signals to consider, not proof of fraud or a measure of how often codes fail. BBB complaint listings do not establish a failure rate.

No independent code-failure rate is established by the available evidence. Complaints alone cannot tell you the likelihood of a problem, and the existence of an operating storefront does not guarantee any particular code.
How to reduce the risk before buying
- Confirm the platform and region. Read the specific product’s compatibility details and make sure they match the account where you plan to redeem the code. Do not assume that a platform label or “worldwide” wording covers every account. Loaded’s category listings show that product and regional details can matter.
- Check delivery terms on the listing. The older CDKeys FAQ described typical electronic delivery, but timing can vary by product. Check the current product page rather than relying on an old general statement.
- Save your records. Keep the product listing, order confirmation, code, and any platform error message. They can help you explain the issue to the seller or platform.
- Know which company handles the dispute. Steam says it cannot refund purchases made outside Steam, including third-party CD keys. If you buy a code elsewhere, do not assume Steam will resolve a seller-side problem. Steam’s refund policy was last updated on 23 April 2024.
What if the code does not work?
Start with the code’s stated platform and region, then compare them with the account and error message. Contact the retailer with your order details and saved evidence. Steam’s policy rules out a Steam refund for a third-party key purchase, but the current detailed Loaded terms for revealed, redeemed, faulty, or region-incompatible codes could not be verified. Check Loaded’s live terms before purchase; do not rely on an assumed deadline or promised replacement.

Is CDKeys legal, or are the codes authorized?
Those are separate questions from whether the retailer is real. A secondary explainer describes CDKeys as a third-party or grey-market retailer, but that characterization does not establish the provenance or authorization status of every listing. Digital Citizen’s overview is secondary commentary, not primary proof about an individual code.
The evidence here does not establish that the entire service is illegal or that every code is unauthorized. Legal rules and platform terms can vary by jurisdiction and product, and no jurisdiction-specific legal conclusion follows from the available information.
