First identify the title, platform or launcher, exact error message, and point where the process stops. The steps below cover Steam on PC and PlayStation 4 and 5; other platforms require their own current support instructions.
Identify what is failing before retrying
Note the Sonic game and edition, whether you own it digitally or on disc, the platform or launcher, the exact error text or code, and whether the problem is that the download will not start, stalls, installation or update fails, or an installed game will not launch. Check the platform’s service status before repeating a transfer. A stalled download and a game that is locked can have different causes and need different checks.
Steam on PC: fix a download, installation, or update problem
Steam’s general guidance for installation and update issues applies across its games; it is not a Sonic-specific fix. Menu labels can change, so use the current Steam client if a label differs.
- Restart Steam and your computer. Then try the download or update again.
- Clear Steam’s download cache: open Steam > Settings > Downloads > Clear Download Cache. Steam says this flushes locally cached configuration data and obtains it again from its servers. You may need to sign in again afterward.
- Repair the library folder: open Steam > Settings > Storage, open the menu for the relevant library, and choose Repair Folder. Steam notes that library folders need write permissions for users to update games properly.
- Verify files only if the game is already installed: in Library, right-click the game and choose Properties > Installed Files > Verify Integrity of Game Files. Steam describes this as a way to identify and fix problems with installed files; it is not a way to validate a game that has never finished installing.
- Try a different download region: open Steam > Settings > Downloads and change Download Region. Steam says content servers can be slow, overloaded, or affected by hardware failure.
- If available, test another library drive. This can help determine whether the existing storage device or library is involved. Consider buying an external drive only after confirming that storage space or the current drive is the problem; added capacity will not resolve an account, server, network, or file-integrity issue.
If the error continues, record its full wording, including any parenthetical reason. Firewall interference and drive problems are among the external causes Steam advises considering. Do not casually uninstall Steam: Steam warns that uninstalling it deletes game content, although reinstalling Steam to the same location may preserve installed games. PlayStation 4 or 5: a download will not start or is stuck
For a stalled PlayStation Store transfer, PlayStation recommends pausing and resuming the download. If that does not help, cancel and delete the queued item, then start it again from the game library. Also check PlayStation service status, install current system software, and confirm that the console has enough available storage. PlayStation: the Sonic game shows a lock
A padlock icon may indicate a license problem. PlayStation advises checking the account that purchased the game and its transaction history. If you access it through PlayStation Plus, confirm that the subscription is active and that the title is still available through the service. Then follow PlayStation’s restore-license guidance. If another account owns the game, check the console-sharing or primary-console settings for that account. See PlayStation’s troubleshooting steps for the relevant console and account situation.

PS5 error CE-107527-2: follow the code-specific steps
PlayStation lists a specific sequence for PS5 installation error CE-107527-2. These steps apply to this error code and are not a guaranteed fix for other installation failures.
- Restart the PS5 and try the installation again.
- If possible, connect the console to the internet with a wired connection.
- Reconfigure the network settings. If using Wi-Fi, move the console closer to the router and remove obstructions.
- Restart the router after waiting at least five minutes.
- Open Settings > Storage, remove failed game data, and download the game again.
Use PlayStation’s CE-107527-2 support page if the error remains or the menu options differ.

If these steps do not resolve it
Contact the platform’s official support with the Sonic title and edition, platform, exact error text or code, whether the game is digital or disc, and the stage where it fails. The steps here are documented for Steam and PlayStation; they should not be assumed to apply to Xbox, Nintendo Switch, or mobile versions. For another platform, use that platform’s current official troubleshooting guidance rather than applying Steam or PlayStation menu steps.
