Is Civ 6 free on the Epic Games Store?
Not according to the official Epic information checked on October 8, 2026: the base-game listing does not confirm an upcoming giveaway. That does not rule out a future promotion; it means the headline is unverified until Civilization VI appears on Epic’s live Free Games page with an offer period.

A search-result snapshot of the store listing showed a sale ending September 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. That date has passed and refers to an earlier sale, not evidence of a new free offer. Check Epic’s current listing and promotion page rather than relying on old sale details or giveaway rumors.
How to verify and claim a free offer
- Open Epic’s Free Games page, which Epic identifies as the place to check current free promotions.
- Look for Civilization VI on the live page and read the displayed start and end dates. No upcoming giveaway date, regional availability, or eligibility terms were confirmed by the official information checked on October 8, 2026.
- If the offer is displayed, claim the game through Epic before the stated end time. Epic says free promotions are available for limited periods and a game must be claimed during its offer window to be added to the account library.
The claim is digital and takes place through Epic. A giveaway of the base game would not mean that the Anthology or its add-ons are included.

- EXPANSIVE EMPIRES: See the marvels of your empire spread across the map like never before.
- ACTIVE RESEARCH: Unlock boosts that speed your civilization's progress through history.
- DYNAMIC DIPLOMACY: Interactions with other civilizations change over the course of the game.
- COMBINED ARMS: Expanding on the “one unit per tile” design, support units can now be embedded with other units.
What the Epic listing says about Civilization VI
Epic lists Civilization VI as a Windows strategy game with turn-based strategy, single-player, multiplayer, and competitive features. Firaxis Games is named as developer and 2K as publisher. The store page lists minimum and recommended system requirements, including 4 GB and 8 GB of memory respectively; consult the full listing for the complete hardware requirements and compare them with your PC.
Epic’s description highlights cities that can span multiple tiles, active research, changing diplomacy, support units, and tutorials. Those are publisher descriptions, not independent performance or gameplay test findings.

- The ultimate entry point for any gamers new to the greatest strategy game series of all time
- The package includes the Sid Meier’s Civilization VI game, six DLC packs*, the Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm expansions, and the full New Frontier Pass content pack.
- Save vs buying DLC packs a la carte. Individual DLC and Expansions may be sold separately. If you already own any Civilization VI standalone content, do not buy this product or you will be double-charged for content.
What the Anthology includes—and what it does not
The Civilization VI Anthology is a larger content bundle, not the same product as a possible free base-game promotion. Epic’s Anthology listing describes these included items:
- The Civilization VI base game.
- Two expansions: Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm.
- Six DLC packs.
- The New Frontier Pass.
- The Leader Pass for Anthology owners.
Epic describes Rise and Fall as adding Great Ages, Governors, civilizations, and leaders. Gathering Storm adds environmental effects and natural disasters, engineering projects, power and resources, a World Congress, and a Diplomatic Victory condition. The New Frontier Pass is described as adding six game modes, eight civilizations, and nine leaders. Epic says the Leader Pass includes 12 new leaders and six new takes on existing leaders; its page states that the base game is required for all Leader Pass content and that certain leaders require other DLC packs.

Should you claim the base game or buy Anthology?
| What to check | Base-game giveaway | Anthology purchase |
|---|---|---|
| What you get | The base game, only if an official offer appears and you claim it during its stated period. | Base game, two expansions, six DLC packs, New Frontier Pass, and Leader Pass, as described by Epic’s Anthology listing. |
| Existing ownership | Check whether the game is already in your Epic library. | Check owned standalone content first; Epic warns of possible duplicate charges for content. |
| Platform | Epic’s base-game listing identifies Windows. | Confirm the listing and your intended platform before purchase. |
| Price or timing | No upcoming giveaway dates or claim window were confirmed as of October 8, 2026; use the live Free Games page. | Check the live Anthology listing for the price shown in your region. |
You do not need to buy Anthology in order to claim a free base game if Epic lists one. The bundle is relevant if you want its added content and the live price makes sense for you.
