Do I need Elden Ring to play Nightreign?
No. You can play Nightreign without owning the original Elden Ring. It is a separate product, not an expansion that requires the base game.

How does a Nightreign expedition work?
Players set out into Limveld for a repeatable expedition with a three-day-and-night cycle. The map and conditions change between runs: the launch guide notes that enemies, camps, churches and terrain can vary. That does not mean every element is procedurally generated.
- Explore and prepare. Search Limveld, fight enemies, discover locations and make choices about where to spend time as the expedition progresses.
- Respond to Night’s Tide. The shrinking safe area constricts the playable space, creating pressure to move and adapt.
- Build strength during the run. Combat and exploration help players improve before the major encounters.
- Face the Nightlord. The expedition culminates in a final Nightlord confrontation on the third night.
A failed run is not necessarily empty progress: players can earn relics that persist and customize characters between expeditions. Relics can add effects such as increased starting stats or particular starting items.
Can you play Nightreign solo, and how many players can join?
Nightreign is designed around squads of three, and single-player is supported. The official product information lists three players with solo play available; it does not describe the game as requiring a full squad.
Which characters can you play?
The launch guide identifies eight Nightfarers. The later The Forsaken Hollows DLC adds two more: Scholar and Undertaker. Their addition expands the character roster alongside the DLC’s other content.

What does The Forsaken Hollows add?
Bandai Namco lists The Forsaken Hollows as available. The DLC adds Scholar and Undertaker, two additional bosses encountered on the third day, field bosses, new points of interest in Limveld and a Shifting Earth map condition. Check the local product listing to confirm which edition or bundle includes the DLC; the official page lists a standalone DLC-only edition that does not include the base game.
