Enter the Gungeon does not have native online co-op or online matchmaking. It supports two-player local co-op, and Steam’s Remote Play Together lets a friend join that local session remotely by streaming the host’s game. That is a Steam-specific way to play together, not a built-in online lobby.
How can you play Enter the Gungeon with someone else?
Local co-op on one device
The game supports two-player shared or split-screen co-op. Player one chooses a Gungeoneer; player two joins as the Cultist. Steam lists the game’s shared/split-screen feature and full controller support on its store page.

Remote play through Steam
On Steam, you can invite a remote friend with Remote Play Together while a local co-op session is running. Community setup guidance describes the sequence as starting co-op, inviting the friend through the Steam overlay, and having player two select the Cultist. The character-selection steps come from a Steam Community discussion, not an official support article.
Remote Play Together streams the host’s session to the guest. Connection quality and input latency can affect how responsive it feels, so this is not equivalent to a native online mode with matchmaking.

Does Enter the Gungeon have built-in online co-op?
No. The Steam listing identifies local multiplayer features and Remote Play Together, but does not list native online co-op or matchmaking. In a historical Steam Community response, Dodge Roll’s developer account DecoyOctorok said: “Online co-op is not currently planned.” The developer explained that the game began as single-player and that limiting co-op to local play made it feasible within the team’s development schedule. That 2016 statement is useful context; the current Steam listing is the relevant evidence for the features Steam lists today.
