Gran Turismo 7 ranks first among Gran Turismo games in U.S. dollar sales, but not in copies sold. Circana analyst Matt Piscatella said it ranked fifth in U.S. unit sales among the franchise’s releases, so “highest-grossing” should not be confused with “best-selling.”
Is Gran Turismo 7 the best-selling Gran Turismo game?
Not by copies sold, according to Piscatella’s reported rankings. In a January 23, 2025 social post, the Circana executive director and analyst wrote: “Gran Turismo 7 now ranks 1st in dollars and 5th in units among all Gran Turismo franchise releases.” GamingBolt reported his statement on January 27, 2025; it is an analyst’s ranking, not an announcement from Sony.

The distinction matters: dollar sales measure sales value, while unit sales count copies. GT7 leads the franchise in the former ranking, but Piscatella placed it fifth in the latter.
Did Gran Turismo 7 make more money than Gran Turismo 3?
The reported first-place U.S. dollar ranking means GT7 is ahead of Gran Turismo 3 and the other franchise releases on that measure. It does not establish that GT7 sold more copies than Gran Turismo 3. The reported unit ranking instead places GT7 fifth.

GamingBolt situated Piscatella’s comment alongside Circana’s December 2024 chart of top PlayStation premium games by U.S. dollar sales. Its description covers physical and digital sales from publishers that share digital data with Circana and excludes add-on content. That chart context does not disclose the full method or lifetime cutoff used for the franchise-wide ranking.
What are GT7’s U.S. sales in dollars?
The reviewed reporting does not publish Circana’s exact U.S. lifetime dollar total for Gran Turismo 7. GTPlanet estimated about $155 million in U.S. sales by extrapolating from leaked Gran Turismo Sport sales data and assuming a geographic split. That is an editorial estimate, not a Circana or Sony figure, and should not be treated as the confirmed revenue behind the ranking. GTPlanet also estimated about $650 million globally using the same approach.

How does the ranking compare with Gran Turismo’s worldwide sales?
Sony’s official Gran Turismo site says the series surpassed 100 million units sold worldwide as of June 25, 2025. That figure covers the franchise as a whole, not GT7 alone, and counts units rather than U.S. dollar sales. Sony’s series history lists Gran Turismo 7 as a 2022 release.
These figures describe different things: Piscatella’s ranking is for U.S. franchise dollar sales and units, GTPlanet’s revenue numbers are estimates, and Sony’s milestone is a worldwide franchise unit total. They should not be treated as directly interchangeable.
