The official PlayStation instructions do not establish one universal pre-load start time for every region or edition. If you pre-ordered digitally before release, the countdown on that specific PlayStation Store order was the place to check; today, download an owned copy from your Library or the Store.
When did Gran Turismo 7 pre-load start?
PlayStation’s official pre-order instructions explain how to set up automatic downloads, but the official pages cited here do not give a single global date and hour when GT7 pre-loading began. The countdown shown for an individual PlayStation Store pre-order is the relevant reference; a time reported by players should not be treated as an official time that applies to every region or edition.

GT7 itself launched on March 4, 2022, on both PS4 and PS5. The date is listed on the official product page and the PlayStation Store listing. In a September 9, 2021 announcement, Polyphony Digital president and Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi said, “I’m happy to report that Gran Turismo 7 will be available on March 4, 2022, simultaneously on both the PS5 and the PS4 consoles.”
Because the game is already released, a current download is a standard download of an owned copy, not a pre-load. Find it in your console’s Library or on the Store.

How to set up a digital pre-order auto-download
These steps describe the PlayStation Store pre-order process. Auto-download starts when the content becomes available; it is not early access and does not mean the game can be played before its release unlock.
On PS5
- From Games home, open Game Library.
- Select the pre-ordered game, then select its release countdown timer.
- Review the included content and leave selected the checkboxes for the items you want downloaded automatically.
If your purchase includes both the PS4 and PS5 versions, you can manage the download selections from the countdown timer for either version.

On PS4
- Enable automatic downloads and activate the console as your primary PS4.
- Open Library > Purchased and select the pre-order.
- Choose the countdown timer below the title and follow the on-screen instructions.
Digital pre-order, disc and edition differences
| Purchase or setup | What it means for downloading |
|---|---|
| Digital pre-order | Eligible for PlayStation Store pre-order auto-download when configured as described above. |
| Physical disc | A disc purchase is not a Store pre-load. Insert the disc to install and play according to the console’s prompts. |
| PS4 disc used with PS5 | The PS4 version is playable on PS5. To use the digital PS5 upgrade for a PS4 disc, you need a PS5 with a disc drive; the disc cannot be used with PS5 Digital Edition. |
| PS5 digital purchase | The official product page describes access to the PS4 digital version as well. |
The official GT7 product page lists PS4 and PS5 digital and disc editions and provides the applicable version details.

If you own the digital game, open your PS5 Game Library or PS4 Library and select GT7 to download it. You can also find the game through the PlayStation Store while signed into the account that owns it. For a disc copy, use the disc in the console; digital pre-order timer steps do not apply.
