Yes—GTA V can still be worth buying in 2026 if you specifically want its single-player Story Mode or an established, continually updated GTA Online game. What each major storefront currently shows
PlayStation
The PlayStation US page lists a PS4/PS5 GTAV product and a PS5 package containing both Story Mode and GTA Online. It also lists GTA Online for PS5 separately. That means two buyers can search for “GTA V,” choose different tiles, and receive different content.
The same US page showed the PS4/PS5 product as included with PlayStation Plus Extra when accessed. Catalog inclusion is not a permanent ownership entitlement: it can change, and the relevant catalog tier may differ by country. Treat it as a way to access the game while the listing remains available, not as proof that every account permanently owns it.
Xbox
The US Xbox store page listed Grand Theft Auto V for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S at $39.99 or more at the time observed. The edition’s components were Grand Theft Auto V for Xbox One, Grand Theft Auto Online for Xbox Series X|S, and Grand Theft Auto V: Story Mode for Xbox Series X|S as an included add-on.
Because the page describes separate generation-specific components, check the “included with this purchase” section and the installation options shown for your account. A current US price does not establish the price in another region or on a later date.
PC
The PC storefront bundle contains both Enhanced and Legacy rather than forcing a single build. Enhanced is the feature-focused option: the listing describes ray tracing, support for FSR and DLSS, and faster loading through SSD/DirectStorage improvements on supported hardware. Legacy remains relevant when a computer does not meet Enhanced requirements or when compatibility with an older setup matters.

Do not treat a feature name as a performance guarantee. Ray tracing, upscaling, and DirectStorage behavior depend on the graphics card, processor, storage device, drivers, operating system, and the game’s current configuration. Read the live system requirements before buying or installing.
Story Mode or GTA Online: choose before you pay
Buy the bundle when you want the campaign
For a first-time buyer interested in the scripted campaign, select a listing that explicitly names Story Mode. The PS5 bundle and the Xbox Series X|S edition described above do so. The separate GTA Online listing does not establish access to the campaign.

Choose standalone GTA Online when multiplayer is the only goal
If you only intend to play online, compare the standalone GTA Online product with the complete bundle. The standalone route can avoid paying for a campaign you will not launch, but verify the platform, generation, and any console online-service requirement shown at checkout.
Make sure your friends use a compatible platform and version. The official material considered here does not establish a current cross-platform-play policy, so do not purchase on the assumption that players on every console and PC build share one session.

Understand the ongoing optional spending
GTA+ is an optional monthly membership available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar describes it as cancellable and renewing monthly, with new GTA Online benefits each month. On PC, Rockstar states that GTA+ Online benefits apply only to GTA V Enhanced.
Shark Cards are optional packs of in-game currency. The PlayStation US page showed a Great White Shark Card bundle adding GTA$1,500,000, but that displayed package is not a universal inclusion with the game. Neither GTA+ nor Shark Cards is required to buy or play Story Mode.
What the newer versions improve
PS5 and Xbox Series X|S
Rockstar’s PlayStation description highlights improved visuals, faster loading, adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and Tempest 3D Audio on PS5. Take-Two’s March 15, 2022 announcement for the new console generation also described new graphics modes, ray tracing, improved textures, faster loading, and platform-specific audio features on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The 2022 announcement is historical product information. Its detailed performance targets should not be read as a guarantee for every current television, display mode, console setting, or later software configuration. The reliable buying distinction is that the current-generation builds add technical and controller features that are not represented by the older PS4/Xbox One versions.
PC Enhanced versus Legacy
Enhanced is the logical choice when your machine supports its features and you want the newer visual and loading options. Legacy is the safer choice for an older computer or a setup that prioritizes established compatibility. Since the PC bundle includes both, you can compare the two builds after purchase, but storage space and system requirements still matter.

Upscaling support is not interchangeable: FSR and DLSS depend on compatible hardware and settings. A computer with a fast SSD may benefit from the listed loading improvements, while a system without supported DirectStorage hardware will not necessarily receive the same result.
Can existing players move their progress?
PC migration
The current PC listing describes a one-time transfer of Story Mode progress and GTA Online characters and progression from Legacy to Enhanced. “One-time” matters: do not assume you can repeatedly synchronize two independent profiles or undo a transfer whenever you want. Confirm the current eligibility and account requirements in Rockstar support before starting migration.
Console migration
Take-Two’s March 15, 2022 announcement described one-time migration from PS4 to PS5 and from Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S for Story Mode progress and GTA Online characters and progression. It also described special migration rewards at that time.
That announcement does not prove that every account remains eligible in 2026 or that the same rewards still exist. A returning console player should check the current store entitlement and Rockstar’s current support instructions, especially if the old and new versions are on different accounts or regions.

First-time player who wants Story Mode
- Choose your platform generation: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, or PC.
