Work through the checks in this order so you do not spend time changing settings for the wrong platform.
1. Confirm the platform match
Ask every participant whether they are on Steam or Xbox. The available listings do not promise Steam–Xbox cross-platform play. If the group is split between ecosystems, use the same platform before investigating account or network issues.
2. Verify ownership or access

3. Check account and friend connections
Make sure the host is signed in, everyone is added through the relevant platform’s friends system, and invitations are being sent to the intended account. A profile-level join attempt can work when a notification has gone stale.
