Yes—according to Nexon’s official Japanese description, Mabinogi Mobile is basically free to play, with some paid content. Does Mabinogi Mobile have in-app purchases?
Yes. The Japanese description explicitly says that some content is paid. A Korean official shop notice provides a concrete example of how those transactions can be packaged: bundles included M Cash, event tickets, premium pet tickets and fashion tickets. This confirms that purchases can involve in-game currency and tickets for virtual items or events.
That example should not be expanded into claims about the entire shop. The available notice does not establish every item sold, whether all items are obtainable by playing, whether purchases are consumable or permanent, or whether any specific purchase changes combat performance.

What the Korean shop example contained
Nexon Korea’s notice was dated September 16, 2026. It advertised a limited sales period running from September 17 through October 15, and listed three package prices in Korean won:

The source for these figures is the Korean starter-pack notice. The amounts were regional, time-limited Korean offers. They are not current Japanese prices, and the notice does not show that the same bundles were available outside Korea.

- In-game currency: the Korean bundles included M Cash.
- Event access or rewards: event tickets were listed among the contents.
- Virtual pets and fashion: premium pet and fashion tickets were included in the package descriptions.
These labels describe the contents named in one Korean promotion. They are not a complete inventory of Mabinogi Mobile’s monetization. The evidence does not establish the full item shop, the existence of recurring subscriptions, loot-box odds, guaranteed drop rates, battle passes, or a complete list of cosmetic and convenience products.

Are purchases pay-to-win?
The available official notices do not establish whether paid content creates a competitive advantage. The Korean example names currency and tickets for events, pets and fashion, but it does not explain their gameplay effects in enough detail to support a pay-to-win conclusion.
That means two statements should be kept separate:
- It is established that the game has paid content and that at least one Korean promotion sold digital currency and virtual-item tickets.
- It is not established from these notices whether spending is required for progress, improves competitive performance, accelerates advancement, or is limited to optional customization and event access.
If competitive balance matters to you, inspect the item description and the game’s current rules for your region rather than relying on the phrase “free to play.” Promotions and item functions can change after launch.
How payment works in Japan
Nexon’s Japanese FAQ answers one specific payment question: NEXON Points cannot be used to pay for Mabinogi Mobile. The restriction is stated in the Japanese support entry titled “Can I pay using NEXON Points?” at Nexon’s official FAQ, dated October 1, 2026.

What the NEXON Points rule means
If you already hold NEXON Points, the Japanese FAQ means those points are not a supported way to pay for this game. It does not say that the game has no other payment option, nor does it convert Korean won prices into Japanese yen.
How to decide whether you can play for free
You can use this checklist before downloading or spending:
- Confirm the service region. Check that the store listing and official notices apply to your country. A Korean offer or launch date should not be treated as a Japanese one.
- Choose a supported platform. The Japanese site lists iOS, Android and Windows PC. Verify the listing for your operating system and account region.
- Check device requirements. The Japanese official site publishes requirements and warns that they may change with updates. Compare the current requirements with your phone or PC before installing; they are compatibility guidance, not a recommendation to buy a particular device.
- Create or sign in to the correct account. Japan’s launch notice describes account sharing between app and PC, but also notes an issue affecting some cross-platform account use. Make sure you understand which account is linked before starting on a second device.
- Start without purchasing. The official description identifies the game as free to play, so you can test the opening experience before deciding whether any paid content is worthwhile.
- Read each offer separately. Check what currency or ticket you receive, whether it expires, the purchase limit and the final regional price.
- Set a spending limit. Because free access and optional purchases coexist, decide in advance whether you will spend nothing, make a one-time purchase or participate only in a specific event.
Important regional and date caveats
Launch and shop information is time-sensitive. Japan’s service-launch notice is dated October 7, 2026, while the Korean package notice covers a sale ending October 15, 2026. A page that was accurate during that period may not describe the current shop after the offer closes.

The official Japanese site also warns that device requirements may change with updates. Recheck the current listing if an installation fails after an update or if you are moving from mobile to PC.
What the available information does not confirm
Readers often want to know more than whether a game costs nothing to download. The documented information does not settle these questions:
- Whether all story or endgame content can be completed without spending.
- Whether paid pets, tickets or currency provide measurable combat or progression advantages.
- Whether there are subscriptions, battle passes, loot boxes or randomised purchase mechanics.
- Whether Korean bundles or their contents are sold in Japan or other regions.
- What every platform accepts as a payment method.
