No. Mafia: The Old Country is a linear, story-focused game, not an open-world sandbox. You can explore parts of its Sicilian setting, but the campaign keeps exploration in service of Enzo Favara’s story. A separate Free Ride mode adds challenges and activities without changing how the main campaign is structured.
What kind of map does Mafia: The Old Country have?
The game’s setting is explorable, but it is not an unrestricted map where the campaign is just one option among many. Game Director Alex Cox described the design as “a more linear, story-focused game,” saying the team drew on Mafia: Definitive Edition and Mafia II for that approach. In an Unreal Engine interview, Cox said the linear structure was the best way to deliver the narrative experience the team wanted.

In a separate interview, Cox put the distinction plainly: “There is a world to explore, but it’s a backdrop to the story, it’s not the focus. It’s not an open world game in a conventional sense.” Xbox Wire’s interview describes travel and exploration between missions, while the story determines Enzo’s objectives. Some missions allow choices about how to approach objectives, but that is different from being free to roam and pursue unrelated activities throughout the campaign.
Can you free roam or do side activities?
There is exploration, but it is bounded by the story during the main campaign. For additional activities outside that structure, the game has a separate Free Ride mode. 2K added it in a free update on November 19, 2025. The update introduced combat and racing challenges, Photo Mode, Cinema Siciliano (a black-and-white presentation mode), Classic Difficulty, first-person driving, and additional items. 2K’s update announcement lists the additions.

Free Ride gives players more to do, but it does not turn the narrative campaign into an open-world sandbox. Keep the distinction in mind: the campaign is story-directed; Free Ride is a separate mode for added activities.
What did the Man of Honor expansion add?
Announced as available worldwide on August 14, 2026, the Man of Honor expansion adds two story chapters set in Sicily in 1905, along with more Free Ride challenges and jobs. 2K’s expansion announcement describes the added content. These additions expand the game, but the campaign’s story-focused structure remains distinct from an open-world map.

Which platforms is the game on?
2K’s launch announcement listed PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam; the August 2026 expansion announcement also lists those platforms. Store listings and availability can vary by region and retailer, so check the relevant store for current editions and formats.
