The original Moshi Monsters online game closed in 2019, and its account data was lost. But that does not mean every Moshi game is shutting down: Mind Candy’s official site promotes a new PC and mobile game as coming soon, while the separate Moshi Online project says it will remain free to play. Here’s how to tell the services apart and what players can expect.
What happened to the original Moshi Monsters game?
Mind Candy’s official FAQ says the original Moshi Monsters game closed in 2019. It does not give an exact closure day in the retrieved FAQ text, so there is no verified date to attach to the shutdown. The FAQ states: “when the original game closed in 2019, all account data was lost.” Read the official Moshi Monsters FAQ.
The current official homepage describes the franchise as “coming soon to PC & Mobile.” That is a planned return, not a claim that the old online service has reopened. Visit the official Moshi Monsters homepage.
Which Moshi game or service can you play?
| Service | Status | Platforms and cost | Account continuity |
|---|---|---|---|
| Original Moshi Monsters online game | Closed in 2019, according to Mind Candy’s FAQ. | The FAQ does not state current platforms or a cost for the closed service. | Mind Candy says account data was lost when it closed. |
| Moshi Online | A separate project. Its September 13, 2026 announcement says it is part of the Mind Candy family and will continue to be maintained by its team. | The announcement says it remains free to play. Its download page lists desktop clients for Windows, macOS, and Linux. | The available announcement does not promise transfer of original Moshi Monsters accounts. |
| Planned official Moshi Monsters relaunch | Mind Candy’s homepage says it is coming soon; its FAQ describes a planned public release. | Planned for PC and mobile. The FAQ says Mind Candy hopes to use a freemium model with in-app purchases. | The FAQ says old account data was lost. Moshi Online is not the old game reopening
Moshi Online has its own desktop clients. Its download page explains the move to a desktop application in the context of browser Flash no longer being supported. The project’s September 13, 2026 announcement says it is now part of the Mind Candy family; Mind Candy supports costs and ongoing development, while the Moshi Online team maintains it. The post says players can continue to experience the project as before and that it will remain free to play. Read the Moshi Online announcement and see its desktop downloads.

Can you recover your old Moshi Monsters account?
No account recovery or transfer is promised. Mind Candy’s FAQ says all account data was lost when the original game closed in 2019, so players should not expect their old account, progress, or possessions to carry over. The FAQ also says backers could secure an old username for the new game, but it does not establish that this offer is still open. Check the current official FAQ for its terms rather than assuming a username can still be reserved.
When is the new Moshi Monsters game coming out?
The official FAQ states that Mind Candy was aiming for a full public release in May 2027 on PC and mobile, with early access for backers from July 2026. These are the FAQ’s stated plans, not a guaranteed launch schedule. Because July 2026 has already passed, and release timing can change, check the official FAQ for a current update before relying on those dates.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Moshi Monsters shutting down?
The wording depends on which service you mean. The original online game already closed in 2019. Moshi Online’s September 2026 announcement says that separate project will continue, while Mind Candy’s official site presents a new Moshi Monsters game as forthcoming for PC and mobile. The available official information therefore does not support saying that all Moshi games are shutting down.

For players deciding what to do now, the practical distinction is simple: the original service and its accounts are gone; Moshi Online is a separate desktop-playable project; and the new official PC and mobile game is a future release whose timetable should be checked for updates.
