That made it $100 more than the $349.99 U.S. launch MSRP of Nintendo Switch – OLED Model in 2021. Those figures support calling Switch 2 more expensive than that predecessor in nominal launch-price dollars; they do not, by themselves, establish a complete ranking of every Nintendo console released in the past 30 years.
How much did Nintendo Switch 2 cost at launch?
Nintendo announced a U.S. launch MSRP of $449.99 for Switch 2, with a launch date of June 5, 2025. This is the manufacturer’s suggested price at launch—not a statement of what retailers charge now. Nintendo’s April 2, 2025 announcement also listed a U.S. bundle at $499.99.

The bundle was $50 above the console’s launch MSRP and included a digital game code. It is a different kind of offer from a console-only price, so it should not be treated as the console’s standalone price.
What is the price comparison with Switch OLED?
Nintendo announced a U.S. launch MSRP of $349.99 for Nintendo Switch – OLED Model in 2021. On a like-for-like nominal-dollar basis, Switch 2’s $449.99 launch MSRP is $100 higher. Nintendo’s July 6, 2021 OLED-model announcement is the source for that earlier price.

- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
This is a comparison of announced U.S. launch MSRPs, not a comparison adjusted for inflation. It also compares manufacturer suggested launch prices, not observed retail prices or what either system costs today.
Can we say Switch 2 is Nintendo’s most expensive console in 30 years?
The available official price figures establish that Switch 2 launched at $449.99 in the U.S. and that Switch OLED launched at $349.99. They do not establish a complete, model-by-model price history for every Nintendo console released in the 30-year period. So the broad superlative is not verified by these figures alone. The defensible, narrower conclusion is that Switch 2’s U.S. launch MSRP was $100 above the directly documented Switch OLED launch MSRP, in nominal dollars.

The answer can also change depending on what “most expensive” means. A historical ranking would need to compare the same geography and price basis across all relevant systems. U.S. launch MSRP, inflation-adjusted price, worldwide launch price, bundle price and current retailer price are not interchangeable measures.
What came with the Switch 2 console?
Nintendo’s launch announcement lists the console, Joy-Con 2 controllers, grip and straps, dock, HDMI cable, AC adapter and USB-C charging cable as included items. The system has 256GB of internal storage and a 7.9-inch 1080p LCD screen. These included components help clarify what the $449.99 console offer covered; they are not a separate estimate of the system’s manufacturing cost.
