Yes—conditionally. Oblivion Remastered is a strong PC purchase if you want to revisit Bethesda’s 2006 role-playing game with substantially refreshed visuals, refined gameplay, and its major expansions, and your computer meets the published requirements. The important reservation is technical: the game requires an SSD, 125 GB of free space, and relatively powerful hardware. Digital Foundry’s April 26, 2025 launch-era analysis reported heavy GPU demands, CPU-related performance problems, and stutter. Bethesda has since issued performance-focused updates, so that analysis is useful context rather than a universal verdict on every current PC.
The standard edition is the sensible choice when the base adventure is all you need. The Digital Deluxe Edition costs more but bundles both major story expansions, additional downloadable content, new quest-linked equipment, and digital extras. At the time of the Steam listing snapshot used for this guide, prices were $49.99 for the standard edition and $59.99 for Deluxe; regional pricing, sales, and later changes can make the current difference different.

What Oblivion Remastered is and who it is for
Oblivion Remastered is a modernized version of Bethesda’s 2006 open-world role-playing game. Bethesda announced its release for April 22, 2025, on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Game Pass. Bethesda describes the project as having refreshed visuals and refined gameplay. Steam identifies Bethesda Game Studios and Virtuos as the developers and Bethesda Softworks as the publisher.
The remaster is aimed at two overlapping audiences. Long-time players get a way to return to Cyrodiil with a contemporary presentation, while newcomers get access to one of the best-known entries in the series without installing the original 2006 release. The purchase decision therefore depends less on whether the underlying adventure is historically important and more on three practical questions: whether your PC is ready for the game, whether you want the expansions, and how much tolerance you have for possible performance rough edges.

The published requirements do not promise a particular frame rate, resolution, graphics preset, or level of smoothness. They are compatibility tiers. A system that meets the minimum can launch the game, but that alone does not establish that it will deliver the experience you want at your preferred settings.
Standard versus Digital Deluxe: what you actually receive
Steam lists a base game and a Digital Deluxe Edition. The standard edition is the straightforward purchase for someone who wants the remastered core campaign and does not need the bundled extras. Deluxe is a content-complete package rather than a performance upgrade: it does not change the hardware requirements or guarantee better frame rates.
| Edition | Included content | Best fit | Price shown in the Steam snapshot |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | Digital base game | Players who mainly want the remastered main game and will decide later whether they need more content | $49.99 at retrieval; current price may vary by region, sale, and date |
| Digital Deluxe | Digital base game; new quests for unique Akatosh and Mehrunes Dagon armor, weapons, and horse armor sets; digital artbook and soundtrack app; Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine; Fighter’s Stronghold, Spell Tomes, Vile Lair, Mehrune’s Razor, The Thieves Den, Wizard’s Tower, The Orrery, and Horse Armor Pack | Players who want both major story expansions and the additional DLC in one purchase | $59.99 at retrieval; current price may vary by region, sale, and date |
When the standard edition makes sense
- You are primarily interested in the remastered base campaign.
- You are unsure whether you will play the expansions and prefer to keep the initial purchase lower.
- The live price gap is larger than the value you place on the included add-ons.
- You already own equivalent content through a separate entitlement and have confirmed that it is usable with the remaster.
The standard version does not become a worse technical choice. Both editions use the same core PC requirements, and buying Deluxe will not resolve stutter, low frame rates, or storage limitations.

When Deluxe is the better value
Deluxe is easier to justify when you expect a long playthrough. The two named story expansions add substantial post-campaign content, while the listed DLC supplies additional locations, items, spells, and player-home content. The edition also includes the new Akatosh and Mehrunes Dagon equipment quests, horse armor sets, a digital artbook, and a soundtrack app. If you would otherwise buy several of those additions separately, the bundled price difference can be more efficient.

- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Do not treat the $10 difference in the Steam snapshot as a permanent price. Check the current store page in your region, then compare the live difference with how much of the included content you realistically expect to use. A sale can make Deluxe the obvious choice; a different regional price or a later promotion can change that calculation.
Published PC requirements
Steam’s listing specifies Windows, processor, memory, graphics, storage, and DirectX requirements for two tiers. The most easily missed requirement is storage: Steam explicitly states “SSD Required.” The game also lists 125 GB of free space, so an SSD with only a small amount of remaining capacity is not a practical substitute for adequate headroom.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 version 21H1, 64-bit | Windows 10 or Windows 11 with updates |
| Processor | AMD Ryzen 5 2600X or Intel Core i7-6800K | AMD Ryzen 5 3600X or Intel Core i5-10600K |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM | 32 GB RAM |
| Graphics | AMD Radeon RX 5700 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti | AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT or NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 |
| DirectX | DirectX 12 | DirectX 12 |
| Storage | 125 GB available space; SSD required | 125 GB available space; SSD required |
Steam says performance scales with better hardware. That wording matters: the recommended tier is not a promise of a fixed frame rate at a specified resolution. The list also does not say whether a particular GPU will hold a target such as 60 frames per second at 1440p or 4K. Your intended resolution, refresh rate, graphics preset, background applications, drivers, and the game’s current updates all affect the result.

- Confirm the operating system. The minimum listing names 64-bit Windows 10 version 21H1. The recommended listing allows Windows 10 or Windows 11 with updates. A 32-bit installation does not match the stated minimum.
- Identify your processor. Compare your CPU model with the Ryzen 5 2600X/Core i7-6800K minimum tier and the Ryzen 5 3600X/Core i5-10600K recommended tier. Model numbers alone do not establish a frame-rate result; they only show where your processor sits relative to the published list.
- Check system memory. Sixteen gigabytes is the stated minimum and 32 GB is the recommended amount. If your computer has 16 GB, leave additional capacity for Windows and other software rather than assuming every gigabyte is available to the game.
- Check the graphics card. The minimum tier names the Radeon RX 5700 and GeForce GTX 1070 Ti; the recommended tier names the Radeon RX 6800 XT and GeForce RTX 2080. Laptop GPUs and cards with different power limits can behave differently even when their names look similar.
- Verify DirectX 12 support. Both tiers list DirectX 12.
- Verify the drive and free space. You need an SSD and 125 GB available according to Steam. Measure the free space on the actual drive where you will install the game, not merely the capacity printed on the drive.
If your machine falls below the minimum in more than one category, buying before an upgrade is risky. If it meets the recommended tier, you have a stronger starting point, but the official list still does not guarantee a particular smoothness target. If storage is the only shortfall, an internal SSD with enough free capacity addresses a stated requirement; no particular drive model is established here.
What is known about PC performance and stutter
Digital Foundry’s dated launch-era assessment
Digital Foundry’s April 26, 2025 PC analysis reported CPU-related performance problems, heavy GPU demands, and stuttering in its testing, including after an early patch. Those findings are important because they show that meeting a specification sheet does not automatically mean perfect frame pacing. They are also time-stamped evidence from the game’s launch period, not a benchmark of every GPU, CPU, driver, resolution, or later patch.
Do not turn that assessment into a claim that every PC version still stutters in the same way. A player on a different configuration, a different graphics preset, or a later build can have a different result. Conversely, a machine near the lower end of the requirements should not assume that later fixes erase every limitation.

What Bethesda’s updates establish
Bethesda’s July 16, 2025 Update 1.2 post says the update focused on fixes for quests, gameplay, and performance. Bethesda Support also directs players to the game’s in-game graphics settings and general low-FPS troubleshooting. These sources establish that official performance work and troubleshooting guidance exist. They do not establish a universal frame rate for a particular graphics card or processor.

Before judging the game on your own system, make sure the game has installed the latest available update for your platform and use the current settings and troubleshooting guidance supplied in the game and by Bethesda Support. Record the resolution, preset, upscaling or related options you use when comparing results; changing several variables at once makes it difficult to identify the cause of a problem.
How to interpret a bad result
- Low average frame rate: The GPU may be overloaded by resolution or visual settings, or the system may be below the recommended graphics tier.
- Sharp drops in busy scenes: A CPU-related limit, background workload, or game-side issue may be involved. Digital Foundry specifically reported CPU-related problems in its dated analysis, but that does not diagnose your individual machine.
- Uneven frame pacing or hitching: Stutter can have several causes, including the game build, asset streaming, drivers, or system activity. Use the current patch and official troubleshooting steps before drawing a broad conclusion.
- Insufficient disk space: This is a requirements problem, not a graphics-setting problem. Free space on an SSD or choose a suitable internal SSD before installing.
Because no universal benchmark was established for this guide, be wary of precise claims such as “this GPU always delivers X frames per second.” The published requirements and the dated independent analysis support a configuration-dependent answer, not a single number.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the remaster worth buying at full price?
The answer depends on what you value. The remaster’s strongest case is for players who want the original game’s world and role-playing systems with a substantially refreshed presentation and the option of playing the major expansions. Deluxe strengthens that case by placing the two major story expansions and the listed DLC in one package.
The weaker case is a buyer with a borderline PC who expects guaranteed high-refresh performance. The SSD requirement, 125 GB installation footprint, 32 GB recommended memory, and relatively strong recommended GPUs make this a demanding PC release compared with a typical older RPG. The launch-era performance report adds a reason to check your configuration and keep expectations realistic.

| Your situation | Most defensible choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You meet or exceed the recommended tier and want the complete game | Digital Deluxe, especially on a small price gap or sale | It includes both major expansions, the additional DLC, equipment quests, and digital extras |
| You meet the requirements but mainly want the core campaign | Standard edition | You avoid paying for content you may not play; performance is the same edition to edition |
| You are below the minimum GPU, CPU, memory, or SSD requirement | Wait or upgrade first | The storefront requirements do not promise acceptable results below the minimum tier |
| You are sensitive to launch-era stutter reports | Buy only after checking the current patch situation and refund rules for your storefront | Digital Foundry’s findings are dated, while Bethesda has continued performance work; neither supports a blanket guarantee |
| You already own a compatible entitlement to expansions or DLC | Verify exactly what is included before choosing an edition | The value of Deluxe depends on whether you would otherwise need those bundled items |
A practical buying checklist
- Write down your PC specifications. Record the exact CPU, GPU, installed RAM, Windows version, DirectX version, SSD location, and free space.
- Compare against both requirement tiers. Treat the minimum list as a basic compatibility floor and the recommended list as the more comfortable target, not as a guaranteed performance profile.
- Decide whether you want the expansions. Deluxe includes Shivering Isles, Knights of the Nine, and the other listed DLC. If you only want the base campaign, standard is simpler.
- Check the live regional price. The $49.99 and $59.99 figures were displayed in the referenced Steam snapshot. Confirm the current amount, currency, taxes, sale status, and edition contents on the storefront you will use.
- Plan the installation drive. Reserve at least the stated 125 GB on an SSD and leave practical free space for the operating system and future updates.
- Update before troubleshooting. Install the latest game update available to you, then use the in-game graphics controls and Bethesda Support’s low-FPS guidance.
- Set a realistic target. Choose your intended resolution and frame-rate goal before changing settings. The requirement list does not promise a target, so evaluate your own result rather than relying on a single hardware label.
Common mistakes to avoid
Confusing “recommended” with a 60-fps guarantee
Steam’s recommended CPU and GPU are vendor-published requirement values, not a benchmark result. They do not specify 1080p, 1440p, 4K, a graphics preset, or a frame-rate floor. Use them to assess readiness, then judge performance under your own target conditions.
Installing on a hard disk because the capacity is large enough
A large hard disk can satisfy the capacity number while failing the explicit “SSD Required” condition. Check the type of the actual installation drive, not just its free-space total.
Using a launch review as a current universal diagnosis
Digital Foundry’s April 2025 report captured an early state of the PC release. It remains useful evidence of potential CPU, GPU, and stutter issues, but Bethesda’s later Update 1.2 and subsequent system changes mean it should not be presented as a measurement of every current installation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsPaying for Deluxe without valuing its contents
Deluxe adds a lot of content, but none of it is a technical upgrade. Compare the live price difference with your plans for the two expansions, the additional DLC, equipment quests, artbook, and soundtrack app.
Final buying decision
Buy Oblivion Remastered on PC if you want a visually refreshed return to the 2006 RPG, have an SSD with 125 GB free, and meet at least the published baseline—with the recommended tier a safer target for demanding settings. Choose standard for the core game; choose Deluxe when the expansions and bundled DLC are part of the experience you want. If your computer is close to or below the minimum, or if inconsistent frame pacing would ruin the game for you, wait until you can verify current performance on your specific configuration and patch.
