Sony’s PlayStation Service Status page reported on October 8, 2026, that PlayStation’s online services were up and running overall. However, web account creation was still listed as degraded, so some features could remain affected.
Which PlayStation services were working?
Sony listed Gaming and social, PlayStation Video, PlayStation Store, and PlayStation Direct as running in its October 8, 2026 status snapshot. The separate web Create Account component was degraded. That notice is about creating an account on the web; it does not mean all of PSN was down.
Sony’s status page said, “You might have difficulty signing in or creating an account. We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.” This was the notice for web Create Account, not a general PSN outage announcement. Check Sony’s live PlayStation Service Status page for the latest component status, since availability can change.
Why might PSN still not work for you?
Sony also said that external, internet-wide issues might affect users’ experience even while its own online services were up. The status page did not identify the cause of those outside issues or connect them to the web account-creation problem. A service marked as running also does not guarantee every player can connect; an individual problem may need code-specific troubleshooting.

What to do if you still cannot connect

Check the live status page. Look for the service or component you are trying to use, rather than relying on an earlier status snapshot.

Use Sony’s instructions for your exact error code. The recommended steps differ by code; find PlayStation Support’s error-code guidance.

If your PS5 shows E2-8223b400
Sony advises checking service status, then restarting the router and modem after waiting at least five minutes. These are steps for this error code, not a guaranteed fix for every connection problem. See Sony’s E2-8223b400 support instructions.
If you see WS-115338-1
Sony advises checking the status page and, if PSN is active, trying to reset the console’s network settings. Its guidance also suggests restarting the router and modem and trying again later if needed. See Sony’s WS-115338-1 support instructions.
