Project Motor Racing is not confirmed as a formal successor to Project CARS. It is a separate motorsport simulation developed by Straight4 Studios and published by GIANTS Software. The comparison is understandable, but the official announcements cited here do not establish a franchise lineage or call it a Project CARS successor.
What Project Motor Racing is
Project Motor Racing launched on November 25, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Straight4 Studios developed it, and GIANTS Software published it. GIANTS described it as a motorsport simulation with career play, ranked online racing with cross-play, custom lobbies, leaderboards, and mod support across platforms. These are the publisher’s descriptions, not independent assessments of how the game plays. GIANTS Software’s launch announcement
At launch, GIANTS reported 70 cars, 13 classes, and 28 scanned track layouts. Those figures describe the publisher’s launch roster; they should not be read as a current total after subsequent downloadable content. The game uses the GIANTS Engine and has an official user-generated-content portal, according to the publisher. GIANTS Software’s launch announcement
Is it really a Project CARS successor?
The evidence does not confirm that. GIANTS Software’s launch description and SEGA’s Japanese announcement do not establish a formal Project CARS franchise connection or identify Project Motor Racing as an official successor. “Spiritual successor” is therefore best understood as a comparison or editorial framing, not a confirmed lineage. A meaningful comparison with Project CARS—or another racing simulation—would need to examine handling and force feedback through independent testing, wheel and peripheral support, career structure, car and circuit selection, mod policies, online features, and how each game has been updated. The official material establishes Project Motor Racing’s advertised features, but does not provide a tested head-to-head comparison.
What the game advertises about its simulation
In an April 2025 announcement, the developers described a new physics engine, force feedback taken from the tie rod, peripheral optimization, scanned circuits, dynamic weather, adaptive racing and drying lines, and a 24-hour day-and-night cycle. The announcement also advertised 720 Hz physics. These are developer or publisher claims, not independently verified measurements or findings about handling, wheel compatibility, graphics, or performance. Project Motor Racing’s feature announcement

Platforms and regional editions
GIANTS announced the November 2025 release for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. SEGA’s August 20, 2025 Japanese announcement specified PC storefronts—Steam, Epic Games Store, and Windows—and confirmed packaged and digital editions for Japan. It also said SEGA would handle manufacturing and sales in Japan under a sub-publishing agreement with GIANTS covering Japan and Asia. That regional announcement does not establish physical-edition availability in other markets. SEGA’s Japanese announcement

What to know before choosing it
- For a Project CARS connection: Treat “spiritual successor” as a comparison, not an official relationship established by the cited announcements.
- For the advertised simulation features: The official descriptions name weather, adaptive track conditions, scanned circuits, and force feedback, but do not prove how these perform in practice.
- For current content: Use the launch roster figures as launch figures; account for later additions such as the 2026 V8 Power Pack.
- For a physical copy: The cited packaged-edition confirmation applies to Japan. Check the relevant regional retailer for other markets.
- For wheel or pedal compatibility: The publisher mentions peripheral optimization, but the cited material does not confirm compatibility for specific models.
