Yes. Ridge Racer 2 is available on PS5 and PS4 as a conversion of the 2006 PSP arcade racer—not as a new game built for current-generation consoles. It keeps the series’ quick races and drifting, and adds features such as rewind and quick save. The console release is single-player only, and Sony warns that some gameplay aspects may differ from the PSP version.
What is Ridge Racer 2 on PS5 and PS4?
It is the PSP version of Ridge Racer 2, converted for PS4 and PS5. The original launched in Japan and Asia on September 14, 2006, and in the UK, Europe and Australia on October 13, 2006. The console conversion was listed for release in the US and Europe on December 20, 2022. Push Square’s game profile lists those regional dates.

Sony’s US PlayStation Store listing identifies the PS4 and PS5 release as a conversion of the PSP game. This is therefore a way to play that older entry on current PlayStation consoles, rather than a newly developed, native-generation Ridge Racer.
What changed in the PS5 and PS4 version?
Sony lists four added convenience and presentation features: up-rendering, rewind, quick save and custom video filters. These additions make it easier to adjust the image and manage a session, but the listing does not establish a specific resolution, frame rate or performance comparison with PSP.

Sony also cautions that gameplay may differ from the PSP version, while stating that progress is not affected by those differences. PSP peripherals are not supported. The release also does not support multiplayer.
What kind of racing does it offer?
This is an arcade racer built around fast cars, sweeping corners and power-sliding through turns. The UK PlayStation Store description mentions drifting and nitro boosts, and says new courses and modes are included. It also lists three machine types and six machine classes available from the start; store descriptions and details can vary by region.

In Push Square’s PS5 review, published January 14, 2023, Stephen Tailby describes a selection of courses and music drawn from earlier entries in the series. He highlights World Tours made up of two or three races, alongside single races, elimination and time attack. Tailby praises the satisfying power-sliding, the upscaled visuals and the cars unlocked as you play. Those are the reviewer’s judgments, not a separate performance test.
What are the main drawbacks?
- No multiplayer: Sony explicitly says this version does not support it.
- No PSP peripheral support: accessories made for the original handheld version are unsupported.
- Some gameplay differences: Sony warns that aspects may differ from PSP, without detailing every difference on the store page.
- Presentation is not uniformly upgraded: Tailby notes that the HUD and menus are not upscaled along with the visuals.
- Race challenges can frustrate: Tailby describes the AI as difficult to overtake and notes the loss of World Tour completion prizes.
Is Ridge Racer 2 included with PlayStation Plus Premium?
At the US PlayStation Store listing checked on October 8, 2026, the game was priced at $9.99 and shown as accessible to PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers. Those are US storefront details from that date, not a guaranteed price or subscription entitlement in every region or at a later date. Check the PlayStation Store for your country before buying or subscribing. The same US listing specifies offline play for one player and Remote Play; PS5 and PS Portal cloud streaming is listed as Premium-only.

Is this conversion worth playing?
Tailby’s review presents it as a strong choice for players who want short, energetic races, a retrospective selection of courses and music, and satisfying drifting. He also calls out the trade-offs: no multiplayer, unevenly upscaled presentation and tough-to-pass AI. His verdict is that it is among the best classic games on PS Plus Premium. If you are looking for a modern, multiplayer-focused Ridge Racer, this release does not provide that; if you want the PSP-era single-player arcade racer with rewind and quick save, it is the relevant PS5 and PS4 version.
