Sarugami Armor is one of the strongest choices for melee players who consistently land perfect parries and dodges, but it is not the best armor for every playstyle. Its powerful counterattacks come with a real cost: regular parries are disabled. Choose it if you want to build combat around precise counters; consider other sets for stagger-focused aggression, archery, or stealth.
What makes Sarugami Armor powerful—and what does it cost?
Sarugami changes how you handle incoming attacks. A perfect parry triggers a counterattack chain, while a perfect dodge damages nearby enemies. The set also increases Resolve gains and widens the timing windows for perfect parries and dodges. It is designed to reward players who make those precise defensive moves part of their offense. PlayStation’s beginner guide explains the underlying distinction: holding L1 blocks most attacks, while tapping it just before a strike performs a parry.

The tradeoff is that Sarugami disables ordinary parries. If you often rely on a standard parry rather than timing a perfect one, that restriction can make some encounters less comfortable. Its wider perfect-action windows help, but the set’s payoff still depends on landing those actions; it is not simply a general defense upgrade. The armor guide describes it as especially potent in skilled hands and notes that losing normal parries can make certain enemies harder to manage.

For a more defensive approach, the same guide also describes Samurai Clan Armor as reducing damage and increasing health, and Ronin Attire as aiding stealth and melee. The right comparison is therefore not a universal ranking: it is whether Sarugami’s counter-focused mechanics match the way you want to fight.

Complete the Mythic Tale “The Legend of Black Hand Riku” in the Iki Island expansion to obtain the armor. The official PlayStation Store listing for Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut identifies Iki Island as part of that edition. The armor is an in-game reward, not a separately identified purchase.
