Steam and Epic Games Store players can play together on PC, while Xbox and PlayStation players can play together on console. Dedicated servers are a separate, PC-only option. A server running on 64-bit Windows or Linux can accept connections from both Steam and Epic PC clients, regardless of which storefront supplied the game.

What “cross-platform” means in Satisfactory
Satisfactory has two multiplayer ecosystems:
- PC ecosystem: Steam and Epic Games Store players can join one another.
- Console ecosystem: Xbox and PlayStation players can join one another.
Those ecosystems do not connect. Crossplay is therefore supported across PC storefronts and across console families, but not from PC to console. This restriction applies whether the PC player uses Steam or Epic and whether the console player uses Xbox or PlayStation.
The same split applies to server hosting. A normal player-hosted game can be created on supported platforms, but dedicated-server software is intended for desktop operating systems. Console releases cannot run a dedicated server or join one.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
In practical terms, “cross-platform” in Satisfactory means choosing one of two supported pools rather than putting every version of the game into one matchmaking system. A group should settle its platform combination first; changing privacy settings or opening router ports cannot bridge an unsupported combination.
Satisfactory crossplay compatibility matrix
| Player combination | Supported? | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Steam PC + Epic PC | Yes | Both players can join the same PC multiplayer session. |
| Xbox + PlayStation | Yes | Console players can use crossplay after linking the required Epic accounts. |
| PC + Xbox | No | PC and Xbox remain separate ecosystems. |
| PC + PlayStation | No | PC and PlayStation remain separate ecosystems. |
| Console + dedicated server | No | Console editions cannot run or use dedicated servers. |
| Steam or Epic PC client + PC dedicated server | Yes | Either PC storefront can connect to the same dedicated server. |
The matrix applies to both ordinary multiplayer and the dedicated-server question. Steam and Epic interoperability is a PC feature, while Xbox and PlayStation interoperability is a console feature. A dedicated server does not create a third, universal ecosystem.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Can Steam and Epic play Satisfactory together?
Yes. Steam and Epic Games Store are compatible on PC. One player can host a regular multiplayer session and invite or share the session with a player using the other storefront. The storefront does not have to match.
The same interoperability applies to dedicated servers. A server installed through the Steam client, SteamCMD or the Epic Games Store can be used by PC clients from either Steam or Epic. The important boundary is the operating system and platform: this flexibility does not extend to Xbox or PlayStation clients.
If a Steam player cannot see an Epic-hosted game, first check that the host session is visible and that both installations are on compatible versions. Buying the game from the same store is not the fix; PC storefront matching is not required.
Can Xbox and PlayStation play Satisfactory together?
Yes. Xbox and PlayStation players can play together through console crossplay. Satisfactory uses Epic Online Services for console multiplayer, so every participant needs an Epic Games account linked to the game.
What each console player needs
- An Xbox or PlayStation copy of Satisfactory.
- An Epic Games account for each player.
- The Epic account linked from Satisfactory’s in-game Online Settings menu.
- An Epic friends relationship with the other players.
You may need to use the Epic Games Launcher or Epic’s account tools to add a friend before returning to the game. Linking an account does not turn a console player into a PC player; it supplies the online identity and services used for console crossplay.
Every participant should link the account they actually intend to use. Creating an Epic account without linking it in Online Settings does not make the console discoverable to friends, and linking only one member of a group is not enough.
How to set up console crossplay
- Open Online Settings. On each console, launch Satisfactory and use the in-game Online Settings menu to link an Epic Games account.
- Add the other players on Epic. Use the Epic friend system. If it is easier, add friends through the Epic Games Launcher or Epic account interface, then allow the game to synchronize the relationship.
- Start the session. The player who owns or hosts the game creates a cross-play session using the multiplayer options.
- Join from the game menu. The other player opens Join Game and looks for the host’s session.
- Check privacy if the session is missing. The official support guidance says profile and session privacy must allow other players to view the profile. Adjust those settings, restart the game if necessary, and search again.
If a friend cannot see the session
- Confirm that both Epic accounts are linked in Online Settings, not merely created.
- Verify that the Epic friend request was accepted by both accounts.
- Check profile and session visibility settings on the relevant Epic accounts.
- Make sure both players are using the same supported console multiplayer environment rather than attempting a PC-to-console connection.
- Have the host leave and recreate the session after account or privacy changes.
These checks address account discovery and visibility. They cannot overcome the platform boundary: a Steam or Epic PC player will not appear in a console crossplay session.

Why PC-to-console crossplay is not available
The developer’s stated reason is consistency for console players. Coffee Stain Studios’ support documentation says: “No, to ensure that console players can rely on a stable, consistent factory experience, we decided to keep the two ecosystems (Console and PC) separate.”
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe official Wiki adds the practical context: PC players can alter settings, use mods and use save editors. Keeping PC and console populations apart reduces the chance that those differences destabilize a shared game for console users.
This is an intentional design and support boundary, not a missing friend request, an account-linking problem or a dedicated-server configuration that can be fixed with port forwarding. If one member of a group is on PC and another is on Xbox or PlayStation, they need to play in separate sessions or use the same platform ecosystem.
Normal multiplayer versus a dedicated server
A normal multiplayer session is hosted by one of the players. The host runs the game and the session exists while that host is playing. When the host stops playing, other players cannot continue in that world unless the host starts it again.
A dedicated server is a separate server process. It keeps the world available while the server computer and process remain online, allowing players to join or leave without requiring the original host to be in the game. It is useful for a group that plays at different times, but it adds installation, administration and network work.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →| Factor | Player-hosted session | Dedicated server |
|---|---|---|
| Persistence | Available while the host is playing. | Available while the server process remains online. |
| Platform reach | Console sessions support console-to-console play; PC sessions support PC players. | PC-only. Console clients cannot connect. |
| Administration | No separate server installation is required. | Requires server software, configuration and network access. |
| PC storefronts | Steam and Epic players can play together. | Steam and Epic clients can connect to one server, regardless of storefront. |
| Hardware and networking | The host’s gaming machine provides the session. | Requires an always-available Windows or Linux machine and broadband networking. |
A dedicated server is not automatically better. It trades the simplicity of pressing “play” for persistence and independent access. If everyone plays at the same time, a normal host avoids server installation and ongoing maintenance. If schedules differ, the server process can justify that extra work.
Dedicated-server requirements
Supported platform
Dedicated servers are a desktop feature. The documented operating systems are 64-bit Windows and Linux. A console, even if it has enough storage or remains powered on, cannot run the dedicated-server software.
Installation choices
The documented installation routes are:
- The Steam client, where the dedicated server is listed as a tool.
- SteamCMD.
- The Epic Games Store.
Server binaries from one storefront are not locked to that storefront’s clients. Steam and Epic PC players can connect to the same server.
Network and storage
Broadband internet is listed as a requirement. Hosting from home may require router port forwarding or a VPN, depending on how the server is exposed to the players who need to connect. The dedicated-server documentation also specifies storage requirements and supported Windows versions and Linux distributions; check those requirements for the operating system and release you intend to run before installing.

“Always on” means more than leaving a shortcut on the desktop. The machine must be powered, connected to the network and running the server process when players expect to join. A sleeping computer, stopped process or blocked inbound access makes the world unavailable even though the files are installed correctly.
How to set up a Satisfactory dedicated server
- Choose an always-on PC. Select a 64-bit Windows or Linux machine that can remain powered on whenever your group expects to play. It can be a spare computer or another system dedicated to server duties, but it must meet the current storage and operating-system requirements.
- Choose an installation method. Install the server through the Steam client tool, SteamCMD or the Epic Games Store. Use the method that best fits how you manage software on that machine.
- Install the server files. Complete the selected tool’s installation and place the server files on the machine’s intended storage volume. Leave enough room for the installation and the saves and configuration files the world will create.
- Configure the server. Apply the server name, access controls and save settings required by your group, following the current dedicated-server documentation for the exact configuration interface and options.
- Provide network access. Confirm that the machine has broadband connectivity. If players are connecting from outside the home network, configure the required router access or use a VPN where appropriate. Do not assume that a server visible on the local network is automatically reachable from the internet.
- Start the server process. Keep the process running when players need the world to be available. A dedicated server is persistent only while its computer and server process remain online.
- Connect PC players. Players launch Satisfactory on either Steam or Epic and connect using the server’s address or discovery method configured for your installation. Storefront matching is not required.
- Maintain the installation. Keep the server and clients on the same game branch and version. Before changing configuration or making save changes, create backups of the world and relevant configuration files. The exact version-matching and backup procedure can change with the current server release, so use the current official documentation for those maintenance steps.
What this setup cannot do
- It cannot accept Xbox or PlayStation clients.
- It cannot convert a console save or console session into a cross-platform PC session.
- It does not remove the need for the PC clients to be on a compatible game version.
- It does not stay available if the server machine is shut down or the process stops.
Dedicated-server cost and hosting choices
Self-hosting has no separate game-server subscription when you already have a suitable 64-bit Windows or Linux computer and broadband connection. The trade-off is your own hardware, electricity, storage, router configuration and time spent updating and backing up the installation. Port forwarding or a VPN may also be necessary for players outside the home network.
Managed Satisfactory hosting is a potential paid alternative for groups that do not want to operate Windows or Linux server software. The price, supported game version, available regions, controls and backup policy vary by provider, so confirm those details and any affiliate terms before choosing a service. A paid host still does not make console clients compatible; it remains a PC dedicated server.
Choosing the right multiplayer arrangement
Use a normal hosted session when
- Your group plays at roughly the same time.
- You do not want to install or administer server software.
- Everyone is already in one compatible ecosystem: all PC, or all console.
- You are comfortable with the host needing to launch the world.
Use a dedicated server when
- PC players need to join at different times.
- The factory should remain available when the original host is offline.
- You have a 64-bit Windows or Linux machine that can stay online.
- You can handle configuration, updates, backups and network access.
Choose a shared platform before troubleshooting
If your group includes both PC and console players, platform choice is the first decision. A server setting cannot bridge the ecosystems. The practical options are for the PC players to play together on PC, for the console players to play together on console, or for the group to use one ecosystem supported by every participant.

Common connection problems and fixes
“My console friend does not appear”
Confirm Epic account linking, accepted Epic friend requests and profile/session privacy. Recreate the host session after changing those settings.
“Can my Steam copy join an Epic-hosted PC game?”
Yes. Steam and Epic PC clients are compatible for regular multiplayer and dedicated servers. Check session visibility and game-version compatibility rather than trying to match storefronts.
“Can I make a console join by opening ports?”
No. Port forwarding or a VPN can help a PC server become reachable, but neither changes the platform support boundary. Console clients cannot use dedicated servers, and PC-to-console crossplay is not supported.
“The dedicated server is installed, but nobody outside my home can connect”
Verify that the server process is running, broadband connectivity is available and the home router or VPN is configured for remote access. Local-network visibility alone does not prove that internet players can reach the machine. Also check that the clients and server are on compatible versions.
“The world disappeared when the host left”
That is expected for a normal player-hosted session. Use a dedicated server if the world must remain available while the original host is offline.

“We linked Epic accounts, but joining still fails”
Check that every console participant linked the intended account, accepted the friend relationship and permits profile visibility. Have the host recreate the session after changing privacy settings. If one participant is on PC, the failure is a platform limitation rather than an account error.

Does every console player need an Epic account?
Yes. Console multiplayer and crossplay use Epic Online Services, so each console participant must link an Epic Games account through the in-game Online Settings menu.
Recommended Free Tools
Can a console player join a PC dedicated server?
No. Dedicated servers are PC-only, and console releases cannot run or connect to them.
Do Steam and Epic players need the same storefront for a dedicated server?
No. Either PC storefront can connect to the same dedicated server, provided the clients and server are otherwise compatible.
Can PC and console players share a normal hosted session?
No. PC-to-console crossplay is not supported, whether the PC copy is from Steam or Epic and whether the console is Xbox or PlayStation.
Can Xbox and PlayStation players use one dedicated server?
No. Console players can crossplay with one another in console multiplayer, but dedicated-server software and connections are limited to PC.
Is a dedicated server required for Steam-Epic crossplay?
No. Steam and Epic players can meet in an ordinary PC-hosted session. A dedicated server is optional and is mainly useful when the world must remain available without the original host.
Will port forwarding enable PC-to-console play?
No. Port forwarding addresses network reachability for a PC server; it cannot change Satisfactory’s separate PC and console ecosystems.
What happens if the dedicated-server computer shuts down?
The world is unavailable until the machine and server process are running again. Persistence means the server remains online, not that it continues operating while powered off.

Use a 64-bit Windows or Linux machine, install the server through Steam, SteamCMD or Epic, configure it, provide broadband network access, keep the process running and connect PC clients from Steam or Epic.
Can console players join a dedicated server?
No. Dedicated servers are PC-only, so Xbox and PlayStation clients cannot connect.
Does a dedicated server cost extra?
Self-hosting uses your own compatible PC and network. Managed hosting is a paid alternative whose pricing and features vary by provider.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Satisfactory crossplay works between Steam and Epic on PC and between Xbox and PlayStation on console. PC and console ecosystems remain separate. Dedicated servers add persistent worlds for PC groups only, and one server can accept both Steam and Epic PC clients. For console crossplay, link Epic accounts, become Epic friends and check profile visibility; for a dedicated server, plan for a 64-bit Windows or Linux machine, broadband access, configuration and ongoing maintenance.
