Squadron 42 remains in development and is not available to download, according to Roberts Space Industries (RSI), and the announced release window is Q2 2027—not a confirmed release date. Before paying, verify that a live offer exists, check whether your RSI account already includes access, and make sure your PC meets the published requirements. If you want to play soon or need launch reviews before deciding, waiting is the safer choice.
Is Squadron 42 available to buy and play now?
No. RSI’s support page, updated February 4, 2026, says Squadron 42 is still in development and is not available for download. RSI says owners of a pledge that includes Squadron 42 will be able to download it after development, testing and release. RSI: Where can I download Squadron 42?

That makes any purchase today a commitment to future access, not a way to start playing immediately. Do not rely on old store listings or saved checkout pages as proof that a current offer is available.
What is the release window, and is there a confirmed date?
In a chairman letter dated August 27, 2026, Cloud Imperium Games chairman and CEO Chris Roberts said the studio had moved the planned window to Q2 2027: “We have taken a look at the release windows at the start of 2027, and decided that Q2 provides a better time for Squadron 42 to release.” He also said a specific date would be announced shortly after October play sessions. The official material reviewed here does not verify a later date announcement, so check current RSI announcements before making a time-sensitive decision. A release window is not a guarantee of a particular day. If you are deciding whether to preorder, factor in the possibility that plans may change and that the game remains unavailable until it is released.
Is there a current price or preorder offer?
The official information reviewed does not establish a final standalone price or confirm a currently available standalone preorder. RSI’s orders FAQ describes a discounted Squadron 42 add-on that may be offered at checkout with qualifying game packages, but that does not prove the offer is available to every account or at every time. | Release certainty | The announced window is Q2 2027; a specific date is not confirmed by the official materials reviewed here. | You can make the decision with a firmer date or after release. |

No hands-on evaluation or independent assessment of the finished game is established here, so there is no sound basis to recommend it on game quality. If you are comfortable committing before release and find a current offer with terms that suit you, buying is a personal risk-tolerance decision.
