Stellaris supports cross-play between PC players on Steam, GOG and the Paradox launcher. Paradox’s published guidance treats console multiplayer separately: PlayStation players can play with PlayStation friends, and Xbox players with Xbox friends. It does not support PC-to-console or Xbox-to-PlayStation multiplayer.
Which platforms can play Stellaris together?
Paradox’s cross-platform support answer, updated January 20, 2024, says PC players can play together regardless of platform and specifically names Steam, GOG and the Paradox launcher. The platform wording is about PC versions; it should not be read as saying every version of Stellaris can join every other one. See Paradox’s cross-platform support answer.

Can PC play Stellaris with Xbox or PlayStation?
No, not according to Paradox’s published cross-platform guidance. It describes PC multiplayer across the named PC platforms, then addresses console play as a separate group. A PC player should not expect to join a console friend’s multiplayer game.
Can Xbox and PlayStation play Stellaris together?
No. Paradox says PlayStation and Xbox players can play with friends on their respective console platform, not with one another. The support answer does not provide a complete compatibility chart for every console generation, so it is safest to confirm the specific editions when playing across generations within one console family.

What online requirements apply on console?
Console subscriptions and player limits depend on the platform. Store listings give the following details; subscription terms can change and may vary by region.

Does buying Stellaris on one platform give you the game on another?
No. Paradox support says a purchase cannot be transferred from one platform to another. If you move from console to PC, plan to acquire the PC version unless the relevant storefront says otherwise. The game is listed across PC storefronts and the Xbox and PlayStation console families on Paradox’s Stellaris page.

What to check if compatible players cannot connect
A failed connection does not by itself mean cross-play is unsupported. Paradox’s connectivity guide lists firewalls and network restrictions as possible reasons for trouble hosting or joining and recommends following its troubleshooting steps in order: Paradox connectivity troubleshooting.
