Pokémon Pokopia won the Japan Game Awards 2026 Grand Award, and some U.S. buyers could choose it with a paid Nintendo Switch 2 bundle. It is not a free game for every Switch 2 owner—and it is not included in Nintendo’s separate Japan-only bundle announced in October.
Which game won the 2026 award?
The Japan Game Awards 2026 named Pokémon Pokopia its Grand Award winner and lists Nintendo Switch 2 as the game’s platform. “Game of the Year” is a convenient shorthand, not the award’s official category name. See the Japan Game Awards results.

How could U.S. buyers get Pokémon Pokopia with a Switch 2?
Nintendo of America announced a U.S. Choose Your Game bundle promotion on May 12, 2026. At participating retailers, buyers could choose Pokémon Pokopia as one of three digital games included with a Switch 2 bundle. The game was included at no additional cost with the qualifying console purchase; this was not a standalone free giveaway. Nintendo’s announcement describes the U.S. offer and its terms: Nintendo Switch 2 Choose Your Game Bundle.
Does Nintendo’s Japan bundle include Pokémon Pokopia?
No. Nintendo’s October 6, 2026 announcement describes a separate, Japan-only Japanese-language Switch 2 bundle. Its download code lets the buyer select one of these three games: Mario Kart World or Nintendo Switch Sports Resort for Switch 2, or Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream for the original Nintendo Switch. Pokémon Pokopia is not on that list.

In both promotions, “free” means a selected digital game is included at no added charge when buying an eligible console bundle. It does not mean that Nintendo made Pokémon Pokopia free to download for existing Switch 2 owners. The game was a selectable option in the U.S. promotion; the Japan bundle’s choices are different.
