It was a Newegg promotion reported on October 17, 2025, with checkout code SSE2589; that historical deal does not establish a current price or active coupon. Xbox’s US plan comparison lists Ultimate at $22.99 per month, but check the live offer and checkout terms before buying.
What happened to the $52 offer?
On October 17, 2025, Engadget reported that Newegg offered a three-month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate code for $52, against a stated list price of $60, using checkout code SSE2589. The report described the promotion as ending soon. Those details document a past deal, not a sale confirmed for October 2026. Engadget’s October 2025 report
So, the practical answer is: the $52 offer cannot be confirmed as live. Do not assume the old code works or that Newegg still has the same price. A current deal needs to be checked on the retailer’s product page and at checkout.
How does $52 compare with Xbox’s listed price?
Xbox’s US plan comparison lists Game Pass Ultimate at $22.99 per month. At that listed monthly rate, three months would total $68.97 before applicable taxes, if billed monthly. The $52 Newegg promotion was a historical prepaid-code offer, so its price should not be treated as an available alternative today. Prices and promotions may change. Xbox Game Pass plan comparison

What to verify before buying a discounted code
- Seller and checkout total: Confirm who sells the code and the final price, including any applicable taxes. A search result or expired coupon page is not proof of an active offer.
- Redemption region and eligibility: Xbox says promotional offers can be limited to certain regions, may be for new subscribers only, and may be available for a limited time. A credit card may be required. Read the offer terms for the specific code and account.
- Subscription length and renewal: Confirm the code’s duration and whether redeeming it starts or extends a subscription. Promotional subscriptions can renew automatically at the then-current regular price plus applicable taxes unless canceled. Check the displayed renewal terms before confirming.
- Device and account fit: Game Pass access is tied to an Xbox account and is subject to Microsoft’s digital-goods rules. Microsoft describes Ultimate use on compatible Windows devices and Xbox One or Xbox Series consoles; an individual game can be accessed on one device or console at a time. Cloud gaming hours are changing in November 2026
Xbox announced that, beginning in November 2026, included cloud gaming time will be limited each month by plan: 15 hours for Ultimate, 10 for Premium, and 5 for Essential. Xbox says additional time will be purchasable through the Xbox Store after included hours are used; available options and features may vary by market. In the announcement, Team Xbox said it expects the change to affect 4% of Game Pass subscribers—Xbox’s estimate, not an independent measurement.
