$699.99 is a reported early-retail figure for the ASUS ROG Ally with Ryzen Z1 Extreme—not a confirmed ASUS launch price in the cited material. ASUS’s official specification identifies the relevant 2023 model as RC71L-ALLY.Z1X_512 and confirms its hardware, but does not establish that price. Treat the number as provisional until ASUS or a current retailer confirms it.
Where the $699.99 figure comes from
Position Is Everything reported on May 26, 2026, that early retail listing activity associated the $699.99 figure with the higher-end Ryzen Z1 Extreme model. The article also cautions that listings may be placeholders and that prices can change; regional taxes or bundles can affect what a buyer pays. It is not a full official ASUS pricing breakdown. Read the report.
That makes $699.99 a reported expectation, not a confirmed universal price. The cited ASUS specification page lists the product’s configuration but does not confirm a current price. Check a live retailer listing in your region before treating the figure as an offer.
Which ROG Ally configuration the report refers to
ASUS names the 2023 Ryzen Z1 Extreme configuration ROG Ally RC71L-ALLY.Z1X_512. Its listed specifications describe the device, not its real-world performance in a particular game.

What the price report does—and does not—settle
The report connects the $699.99 figure to the Z1 Extreme model, but the cited information does not establish a confirmed ASUS launch price, a current in-stock offer, or a price available in every region. Nor does it establish what a specific retailer currently charges. Taxes, bundles and listing changes can affect the amount at checkout.

- Processor Manufacturer: AMD
- Processor Model: Ryzen Z1 Extreme
- Processor Type: Zen 4
The most useful distinction is between the reported price and the confirmed configuration: the former remains provisional in the cited material; ASUS’s model number and hardware specifications are listed on its product page.
How to judge the Ally against a Steam Deck or another handheld
The available product information supports a hardware comparison, but not a verdict on which handheld performs better in practice. The Ally’s official page gives its display, processor, graphics, memory, storage and operating system; the price report supplies only a provisional figure. Neither source provides directly comparable independent results for battery life or game performance.

For a meaningful buying comparison, look for evidence covering the same conditions on both devices:
- Price: Compare current, in-stock prices in the same region, including taxes and bundles—not an early listing against a confirmed retail offer.
- Performance: Compare the same games at stated settings and power limits. The Ally’s 9–30W TDP range alone does not show sustained frame rates.
- Battery life: Look for results from the same game, brightness and settings; a battery figure without conditions is hard to apply to your use.
- Screen: The Ally is specified with a 1920×1080 120Hz display. Decide whether resolution and refresh rate matter more to you than other factors such as battery life.
- Software compatibility: Consider the operating system and launcher support you need. ASUS lists Windows 11 Home for this model; compatibility and ease of use depend on the games and services you use.
- Storage and support: Check upgrade options, warranty terms and retailer support for the exact model and region.
- Comfort and sound: Seek comparable testing for thermals, fan noise and handheld comfort rather than inferring them from the specification sheet.
Should you buy now or wait?
If $699.99 is the price that would make the Ally worthwhile to you, wait for a current retailer listing in your region or ASUS confirmation before budgeting around it. If you find an offer now, verify that it is the RC71L-ALLY.Z1X_512 Z1 Extreme model, confirm stock and the final checkout price, and check the seller’s return and warranty terms.

If your decision depends on sustained game performance, battery life, heat or fan noise, the official specifications and early price report do not answer those questions. Look for independent results with clear game, settings and power conditions before using those factors to choose between handhelds.
