The TCL 65-inch M8LF Mini-LED 4K Fire TV is a plausible match for the 2026 TV described in the headline, but the available reporting does not confirm that identification or an Amazon Prime Day offer. Tom’s Guide reported the set at Best Buy for $499, reduced from $799, on October 4, 2026—not as a verified Amazon deal. Its reported 144Hz refresh rate, four HDMI 2.1 ports and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) make it worth checking for gaming, but confirm the exact model and live price before buying.
Is the TCL M8LF the TV in the headline?
It is a plausible candidate, not a confirmed match. Tom’s Guide’s October 4, 2026 article described a new 65-inch TCL M8LF Mini-LED 4K Fire TV and reported a Best Buy price of $499, down from $799. That article was about premium deals readers would not find at Amazon for October Prime Day; it does not establish that the TCL was the TV intended by this headline or that Amazon offered it for Prime Day.
The price is dated retailer reporting, not a live quote. Check the retailer’s current listing, stock and exact model number before treating it as a deal.
What gaming features does the reported model have?
Tom’s Guide lists a 144Hz refresh rate, four HDMI 2.1 ports and ALLM. It also reports full-array local dimming, Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG support. These specifications make the M8LF a promising feature set on paper, but the article does not provide hands-on game testing, measured input lag or image-quality measurements. Those details are not established by the cited reporting.

144Hz refresh rate
A high refresh rate can support smoother motion when the connected console or PC and the game output at a compatible rate. The TV’s stated maximum does not mean every game will run at 144 frames per second: the source device, game and output settings all matter. Amazon’s Fire TV guidance likewise notes that higher refresh rates depend on the game and device settings.
VRR and ALLM
Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) synchronizes the TV’s refresh rate with a compatible gaming device. Amazon says this can reduce stutter and screen tearing. ALLM lets a compatible device switch the TV automatically into its low-lag game mode. Amazon cautions that these features are model-specific and require compatible gaming devices. The cited M8LF report lists ALLM but does not establish VRR support, so verify VRR for the exact model before buying if it is important to you.

HDMI 2.1 ports
Four HDMI 2.1 ports are reported for the M8LF, but an HDMI 2.1 label alone does not establish which gaming features each input supports. Amazon’s general Fire TV instructions say some supported models may require HDMI 1 or 2 for 120Hz or 144Hz at 4K/UHD; that model-dependent guidance does not identify the M8LF’s port mapping. Check the TV’s manual or product specifications for the exact input and signal combination your console or PC needs.
How to decide whether it suits your console or PC
- Confirm the listing. Look for the exact TCL M8LF model number and screen size; similar product names can refer to different specifications.
- Match the TV to your device. Check the console or PC’s supported resolution and refresh rate, then confirm that the TV input supports that combination.
- Check the features you care about. Confirm VRR and ALLM availability for the exact model, along with which HDMI ports support the required gaming signals.
- Compare the live offer. Verify the retailer, price and stock. The reported $499 Best Buy price is from October 4, 2026, and does not verify a current deal or Amazon availability.
Amazon’s guidance is useful for understanding the features but does not confirm this TCL’s specific support or setup. Its page, Use Gaming Features on Your Fire TV Smart TV, explains that compatible Fire TV models and gaming devices are required for VRR and ALLM.

What the deal reporting does—and does not—show
The available report establishes a historical Best Buy price claim, not a current price comparison or a Prime Day discount. It does not verify an Amazon listing, current stock, or whether the former $799 price is representative of what the TV typically sells for. Treat the $499 figure as a dated snapshot from Tom’s Guide’s October 4, 2026 report, not a guaranteed price today.
The reporting also does not establish that the M8LF outperforms other gaming TVs or is the best buy for a particular console. A fair comparison would need current prices and model-specific details such as native refresh rate, VRR and ALLM support, HDMI input capabilities and screen size.
