No Man’s Sky has a construction stop: players report that the game displays “Construction Limit Reached” and blocks additional placement. The numbers most often cited are 3,000 parts per base for uploading and 16,000 parts across a save for building, but those are community-reported estimates—not a current numerical specification published by Hello Games.
Two limits players mean by “base-building limit”
The question can refer to either sharing one base or placing more parts anywhere in a save. These are different thresholds with different effects.
| Threshold | Scope | Reported effect | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3,000 parts | One base | Commonly described by players as the point beyond which a base cannot be uploaded for others to visit. It is not established as a hard stop on placing parts in that base. | Community discussions; not a current official specification. Steam discussion (2024) |
| 16,000 parts | Across a save | Commonly reported as the point at which the game blocks further construction. | Community discussions and a community-maintained counter; not a current official specification. Steam discussion (2024); NMS-base-part-count |
These figures are useful for planning, but they should not be treated as guaranteed limits in the current game. The Hello Games release log and the official update notes reviewed do not publish a current part-count cap.
What is confirmed—and what remains uncertain
The game can stop additional construction
Players describe receiving a “Construction Limit Reached” warning that prevents further placement. The in-game warning is the clearest indication that a particular save has hit its active construction limit.

The 3,000 figure concerns uploading, not necessarily building
Community reports distinguish a per-base upload threshold from the broader construction stop. A base reportedly may exceed 3,000 parts while remaining buildable, even if it can no longer be uploaded for public sharing. The available sources do not establish that this behavior is guaranteed in every current version.
The current save-wide count and what it includes are not specified
Hello Games’ Cosmos (Update 7.0) adds station interiors and exteriors, extra station rooms, and free-floating orbital bases. Its notes do not state whether these structures—or their preinstalled parts—draw from the same save-wide budget as other bases. A recent community discussion from October 2026 reflects uncertainty about how newer construction features interact with the part budget, but does not resolve the counting rule.

Nor do the sources establish that the cap differs by platform. There is no supported basis here for promising an exact post-Update-7.0 total or a workaround to bypass the stop.

Hello Games described NEXT (Update 1.5) as introducing “near-unlimited base building.” That phrase describes the scale and freedom of the feature, not the absence of a technical limit; the page gives no numeric cap. Later updates expanded what players can build: Endurance added freighter construction extending beyond the hull, while Beacon (Update 5.7) introduced new base parts and revised settlement-building systems. Those update pages also do not specify a current construction maximum.

How to plan around the limit
- Use 3,000 parts per base as a community-reported upload threshold, not a confirmed building cap.
- Treat 16,000 parts per save as a commonly repeated estimate, not an official current maximum.
- If the game displays “Construction Limit Reached,” trust that warning for the save you are playing rather than relying on an older community counter or a remembered figure.
- Do not assume stations, orbital bases, or built-in structures count in a particular way: the current official notes do not document their accounting.
