No. “Universe Sandbox 2” usually refers to Universe Sandbox², the former name of the current Universe Sandbox. The genuinely separate older game is Universe Sandbox Legacy.
Why people call it Universe Sandbox 2
The name changed, but the current game did not become a different numbered sequel. On May 8, 2019, developer Giant Army explained that it removed the superscript 2 because it was confusing to say and difficult to type. An update to that post says the 2 was fully removed from the application name in March 2020. The developer said it planned to keep adding features, improvements, and fixes to the current version, rather than replace it with a separately named new release. Giant Army’s naming announcement
Is Universe Sandbox Legacy the same game?
No. Universe Sandbox Legacy is the earlier, separate game. Giant Army identifies Legacy as the original Steam version, released in 2011. The current Universe Sandbox was built from the ground up in a different engine and entered Steam Early Access in 2015; the developer’s FAQ describes it as a new product rather than an update to Legacy. What is the current Universe Sandbox?
It is a physics-based space simulator that combines gravity, climate, collisions, and interactions between materials. The developer’s examples include climate simulation, advanced collisions, stellar evolution and supernovae, terraforming, material and composition simulation, black holes, and procedurally generated celestial objects. Features may change as development continues. Universe Sandbox FAQ

Is Universe Sandbox still being developed?
Yes. The official Steam listing identifies the current game as Early Access, and Giant Army’s August 20, 2026 announcement describes continued development and roadmap work, including a mobile version. That announcement indicates mobile is planned or in development; it does not establish that a mobile edition is already available. Giant Army announcements
