Yes. Unturned supports online multiplayer, co-op, and LAN co-op. On Steam, friends can join an active multiplayer server through an invitation, the Steam Friends List, or a 17-digit Server Code. Xbox and PlayStation 4 players use the platform’s server list or browser. A normal single-player world is not itself a joinable multiplayer session: for private co-op, the host must start a multiplayer server.

How Unturned multiplayer works
Unturned separates a solo world from a multiplayer server. If you launch an ordinary single-player session, a friend cannot simply join that world. You need to create or enter a multiplayer server first, then give other players a way to connect.

Steam lists both Online Co-op and LAN Co-op for Unturned. The practical choices are a temporary session hosted while you play, a LAN server for people on the same local network, or a persistent internet server that is configured to remain available between play sessions.

The fastest way to play with friends on Steam
For a one-off co-op session, use a multiplayer server and then send an invitation or Server Code. You do not need to build a dedicated internet server merely to try the game together.

- Start a multiplayer server. Enter Unturned’s multiplayer/server flow and create or enter the server you want to host. Do not start an ordinary single-player world if you expect a friend to join.
- Open the server controls. From the pause menu or the server-information screen, choose Invite Friends when that option is available.
- Invite the player through Steam. Select the Steam friend you want to bring into the session. The friend can accept the invitation and join through Steam.
- Use a Server Code if an invitation is inconvenient. Copy the code shown by the server and send it to your friend through your usual message channel.
- Have the friend join. The friend can use the Steam Friends List to join, or open Connect Directly and enter the Server Code.
The official Steam guidance states that any server with a Server Code, including a LAN server, can also be joined through the Steam Friends List. That means a LAN session does not have to appear in the public internet browser before your friend can connect.
Joining an Unturned Server Code
A Server Code is a randomly generated 17-digit numeric code. It is a connection shortcut: your friend enters the number in Connect Directly instead of searching through a server list.
What the joining player does
- Open Unturned on Steam and reach the multiplayer server browser.
- Choose Connect Directly.
- Enter all 17 digits exactly as the host sent them.
- Confirm the connection and wait for the server to respond.
What the host should check
- The multiplayer server is still running when the friend tries to connect.
- The code was copied without missing or transposed digits.
- The host sends the current code after every restart unless a Game Server Login Token is assigned.
A Server Code lets a friend connect without the host configuring port forwarding. It does not make an offline server available: the server still has to be running, and the code must refer to that current server session.

How to make a private friends-only game
For private co-op, the simplest arrangement is a multiplayer server that you start when your group wants to play. Share the invitation or Server Code only with the people you want to join. The key limitation is that this is not the same as making a solo save directly joinable; the server must be created in multiplayer mode.
Short sessions
A session-hosted game is suitable when everyone is playing at the same time. Start the multiplayer server, invite friends from the pause or server-information screen, and stop the session when you are finished. Because the server is tied to the host’s active session, players should not expect to connect while the host has shut it down.
Friends on the same local network
Choose a LAN server when the players are on the same home, school, or other local network. LAN servers do not appear in the internet server list. Use a Steam invitation, the Steam Friends List, or the Server Code instead. The documented Server Code workflow supports LAN servers, so the lack of an internet-list entry is not by itself a fault.

Keeping access limited
- Send the invitation or code only to the intended players.
- Use a private server configuration rather than advertising the server publicly.
- Stop the server when nobody should be able to connect.
- For a long-running group world, move to a dedicated server so the world is not dependent on one player keeping a game session open.
Setting up a persistent internet server
A persistent server is the right choice when your group wants to return to the same world without waiting for one player to host from the game client. Unturned’s official Dedicated Server tool is installed and updated through SteamCMD.
Setup sequence
- Install the Dedicated Server tool. Use SteamCMD to install and update Unturned’s official dedicated-server software on the computer that will host it.
- Decide how the server will be reachable. Configure either Fake IP or traditional port forwarding. These are the networking paths documented for an internet server.
- Run the server and verify its identity. Once it is running, note the server name and the Server Code it reports.
- Create and assign a Game Server Login Token (GSLT). A GSLT is required for the server to appear in the internet server list. It can also keep the Server Code linked between sessions instead of allowing the code to change whenever the server restarts.
- Give players the appropriate join method. Players can select the server from the internet list when it is listed, or use the Server Code through Connect Directly.
- Maintain the server process. Restart it when applying updates or configuration changes, and send players the new code if the code is not tied to a GSLT.
Fake IP versus port forwarding

The exact networking choice depends on your hosting environment. If you are not comfortable changing router settings, the Server Code workflow can still let friends join a running server, but a persistent server requires a reliable hosting process regardless of which network method you select.

- Server-list visibility: an internet server needs a GSLT to appear in the server list.
- Code continuity: assigning a GSLT can keep the Server Code linked between restarts.
Without a GSLT, a Server Code normally changes after the server restarts. Tell friends the new 17-digit number whenever that happens. With a GSLT assigned, the code can remain associated with the server across sessions, which is more practical for a world your group revisits regularly.

Xbox uses the console server list rather than Steam’s invitation controls. Search for your friend’s server name in the server list. 505 Games advises using the same server location as the host—for example, Frankfurt—or joining directly from the friends list.
Xbox checklist
- Ask the host for the exact server name and location.
- Open the Unturned server list on Xbox.
- Search for the server name.
- Use the same location shown by the host, or select the friend directly from the friends list when that option is offered.
- If the server is not found, confirm that it is online and that the name and location match.
Joining on PlayStation 4
On PlayStation 4, open Unturned’s server browser and find the friend’s server name. The console workflow is based on browsing for the server rather than entering Steam’s 17-digit Server Code.

- Ask the host for the exact server name.
- Open the PlayStation 4 server browser.
- Search for the server and select the matching entry.
- If it is absent, verify that the host is still running the server and that the name was entered correctly.
The documented console instructions cover Xbox and PlayStation 4 server discovery. Do not assume that Steam’s Friends List or Server Code menu exists on those console versions.

The friend cannot see a LAN server
This is expected if the friend is looking only at the internet server list: LAN servers are not listed there. Have the host send an invitation or Server Code, then join through the Steam Friends List or Connect Directly.
The Server Code worked yesterday but not today
Unless a GSLT is assigned, the code normally changes after a restart. Ask the host to open the current server-information screen and send the new 17-digit code.
The server is running but does not appear in the internet list
An internet server requires a GSLT to appear in the server list. Check that the token is assigned to the server and that the server process is currently running. If you only need a friend to join directly, use the current Server Code instead of waiting for a list entry.
Connect Directly rejects the code
- Count the digits and confirm that all 17 numbers were entered.
- Ask the host to verify that the server has not restarted since the code was copied.
- Confirm that you are using the Steam multiplayer client and its Connect Directly option.
- Have the host generate or display the current code again rather than reusing an old message.
An Xbox player cannot find the server
Search by the exact server name, use the same location as the host, and try the friends-list route. A server that is offline, renamed, or running in another location may not appear under the expected search.
A PlayStation 4 player cannot find the server
Recheck the spelling of the server name in the browser and ask the host to confirm that the server is still online. The PlayStation 4 instructions rely on server-browser discovery, so a missing listing usually points to the name, availability, or browsing location rather than a Steam-code problem.
