Viktor is not presented as evil from the start of Arcane. He begins as an idealistic scientist, but the Hexcore’s transformation sends him down a darker path, and the consequences of his later choices can make him a tragic antagonist. The show leaves room to judge his actions without treating the Hexcore as an excuse that erases his agency.
What changes Viktor?
Netflix’s November 16, 2024 character guide describes Viktor in Season 1 as an idealist working alongside Jayce. When Viktor’s life is in danger, Jayce fuses him with the Hexcore; Netflix says that fusion puts Viktor on a grimmer path.
A later Netflix production feature published November 25, 2024 describes the Hexcore as healing and transforming Viktor’s damaged body. Fortiche art director Julien Georgel says the change gives Viktor the opportunity to begin building a church and community. That makes the Hexcore a major force in his transformation, but the account does not establish that it wholly controls him or removes his responsibility.
Does Viktor’s peaceful, messianic image mean he is good?
Georgel says the production wanted Viktor to look “like a human messiah, with a superpositive and peaceful feeling” even as his body appeared to be an organic machine made by the Hexcore. This describes the character’s visual presentation, not a verdict on his morality. A peaceful image or promise of community does not, on its own, make the methods or consequences of his actions harmless.

The same feature connects the anomaly around Viktor to what Georgel calls a “raw and unstable expression of the arcane.” It describes a pattern of chaos and energy slowly corrupting the universe. Those are claims about the show’s fictional world and production framing; they do not establish that Viktor is simply a good person acting under outside control.
Is Viktor evil, or a tragic antagonist?
Calling Viktor evil from the beginning overlooks the idealism Netflix identifies in his earlier characterization. Calling him innocent because the Hexcore changes him overlooks the harm associated with his later path. The more balanced reading is that he becomes a tragic antagonist: his transformation and apparent desire to build a community complicate his motives, while his choices and their consequences still matter.

- The Hexcore’s influence: It heals and transforms him, and the story links that change to his grimmer direction; the cited accounts do not settle how much agency he retains.
- The consequences: Benevolent intentions or a messianic appearance do not automatically excuse harmful outcomes.
That is an interpretation of the character arc, not a definitive moral label issued by the creators. An Animation World Network December 9, 2024 interview with co-creator Christian Linke discusses the finale and character choices but does not explicitly settle whether Viktor is evil.

No definitive creator-issued answer is established in the cited material. Netflix’s November 26, 2024 series guide calls Season 2 the final season and quotes Linke saying the story of Arcane wraps up there, while describing it as the first of many stories the team wants to tell in Runeterra. That provides context for the series’ ending, not a final moral ruling on Viktor.
