Xbox is officially supported in China, but that does not prove every Xbox game, imported disc, Store purchase, or online service works across regions. Xbox lists Series X support in China, and Xbox One launched there officially in 2014. “Region-locked” can mean several different things, so check the console model, game format, account and Store region, and service availability separately.
What does Xbox support in China mean?
Xbox’s current supported-regions page lists Xbox Series X support in China. That confirms official hardware support, not universal compatibility between China-market consoles and products or services from every other region.
Xbox One also had an official China launch on September 29, 2014, in partnership with BesTV. Microsoft’s launch announcement described a localized Chinese interface, translated content, local payment methods, local customer support, and a two-year warranty. Those details describe the 2014 launch offer; they do not establish the current warranty, catalogue, or feature set.
Which kinds of region restrictions should you check?
“Region-locked” is not one single compatibility question. A console’s official support, a disc’s compatibility, a digital Store purchase, an account’s region, and an online service’s availability are separate matters.

| Imported physical discs | The reviewed official sources do not establish whether imported discs work on every mainland China console model. Microsoft region guidance; China Xbox One S manual. | Confirm compatibility for the exact console model and game; do not infer disc behavior from the Series X support listing. |
| Digital Store and Microsoft account | Microsoft’s region guidance identifies subscriptions, apps, games, movies, and account balance as region-related matters. Microsoft region guidance. | Read the current guidance before changing your account or Store region, and check whether the content or payment method is available for that region. |
| Online setup and features | The China Xbox One S manual says initial setup, updates, and some features require a Microsoft account and Xbox Live in a supported Xbox One country or region. China Xbox One S manual. | Verify the current availability of the specific feature or service in your location. |
| Warranty and support | Microsoft described local support and a two-year warranty as part of the 2014 Xbox One launch. Can imported Xbox games work on a China-market console?
The official sources reviewed do not answer this for every mainland China console model or game. The China Xbox One S manual discusses supported regions for setup, updates, and some features, but does not establish physical-disc compatibility. Likewise, Xbox’s Series X support listing is not a disc-compatibility guarantee. If an imported disc is essential to your purchase, verify its compatibility with the exact model and game before buying rather than treating “Xbox is supported in China” as a universal answer.

Microsoft’s country and region guidance covers Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S and flags subscriptions such as Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass, apps, games, movies, and Microsoft account balance as region-related. Check that current guidance before changing regions: a region change does not, by itself, establish that a particular service or purchase will be available where you live.

What to check before buying or moving an Xbox
- Identify the generation and exact regional model. The official China support listing cited here is for Xbox Series X; Xbox One’s official China launch was in 2014.
- Check the specific game format. For a physical import, seek confirmation for that disc and console model. The official sources cited here do not provide a universal imported-disc compatibility matrix.
- Check your Microsoft account and Store region. Review Microsoft’s current region guidance for purchases, subscriptions, apps, movies, and account balance before changing settings.
- Confirm online availability where you will use the console. Setup, updates, and some features may depend on a supported region, as the China Xbox One S manual notes.
- Verify warranty and support with the seller or Microsoft. Do not assume the 2014 China launch warranty terms apply to a console bought today or in another region.
