When does It Takes Two release on Switch 2?
Electronic Arts announced a Nintendo Switch 2 release for October 15, 2026, in most regions. The release date is October 16 in Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea, which EA attributes to time-zone differences. EA’s September 9, 2026 announcement also lists a standard price of $39.99; the price line does not specify a currency or establish a universal regional price.

Can Switch owners upgrade for free?
Yes, if the offer is available in your territory and the Nintendo Switch copy is owned on the same Nintendo Account you use to redeem it. EA says to access the offer through the Nintendo eShop or from the game’s offer screen on Nintendo Switch 2. You need internet access, a Nintendo Account, and access to the eShop.
The offer is unavailable in Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. EA cautions that offers may vary or change. EA Help’s search listing says the game will be available physically and digitally, but that statement does not mean every physical copy automatically qualifies: redemption remains tied to the Nintendo Account that owns the Switch game.

What changes in the Switch 2 version?
EA describes higher resolution, improved frame rates, richer visual effects, higher-resolution textures, improved lighting, and shorter loading times. In its game article, EA specifies 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second in docked mode. Those are publisher specifications, not independent test results.
How do Friend’s Pass and multiplayer work?
It Takes Two is a cooperative adventure about Cody and May, a couple turned into dolls by a magic spell who must work together through a series of challenges. One player must own the full game. That player can invite someone who installs the free Friend’s Pass trial, so the invited player does not need to buy the full game. Both players need an applicable platform account, and online play requires a friend on a supported platform.

Cross-play and GameShare
EA lists cross-play for the Switch 2 version with Nintendo Switch 2, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Separately, EA says GameShare can connect a Switch 2 player with Nintendo Switch players. These are distinct options; the cross-play list does not establish that the original Switch version supports the same cross-play functionality.

What EA announced—and what the trailer claim establishes
EA announced the Switch 2 edition during a Nintendo Direct. The announcement inspected does not explicitly describe the trailer as a “debut,” so that wording is not confirmed by the announcement itself. Team Hazelight said: “We are very happy to finally bring It Takes Two to even more players on Nintendo Switch 2. Everyone who owns the game on Nintendo Switch can upgrade for free! Our partners at Turn Me Up Games have done a great job optimizing the game.” EA also says the game has won over 90 awards, including Game of the Year honors from The Game Awards and DICE.
