“The program can’t start because js0smt.dll is missing from your computer.” You may also see “The specified module could not be found,” “The code execution cannot proceed because js0smt.dll was not found,” or “js0smt.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
The 60-second answer
js0smt.dll is not verified as a Windows system file. Public file metadata attributes it to Dassault Systemes and describes it as a generic “System” component, but publicly available records do not establish which exact Dassault Systèmes product installs it.
The safest fix is to identify the application that displays the error, then repair or reinstall that application using its original installer or official software portal. Do not download a replacement DLL and copy it into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.
If the file was quarantined, restore it only after confirming that it belongs to a legitimate Dassault installation. If the file exists but still will not load, investigate a missing dependency, a damaged installation, or an architecture mismatch.

What causes js0smt.dll errors
The usual causes are:
- An incomplete or damaged Dassault application installation
- An update or uninstall that removed part of the application
- Antivirus quarantine
- A missing dependency of
js0smt.dll - Mixed 32-bit and 64-bit application files
- A DLL copied from a different release
- Damaged Windows components

If the error appears during Windows startup and no Dassault application is obvious:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Startup.

- Review Task Scheduler Library for a leftover updater, launcher, plugin, or uninstaller entry.
- Check Settings > Apps > Installed apps for Dassault-related software.

Repair through Windows
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps > Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find the application that produced the error.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
If there is no Repair button, select Modify, Change, or the application’s own maintenance option. The wording depends on the installer.
A successful repair should allow the same executable to start without the js0smt.dll message. If the error remains, return to the application entry and choose Reset only if you understand that it may remove application settings. Otherwise, uninstall and reinstall from the original Dassault installer or your organization’s approved software portal.
Reinstall the matching application release rather than copying a DLL from another computer. After reinstalling, restart Windows and test the program before adding back plugins or custom files.

Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software can remove or quarantine a DLL after an application update or after the file changes.

Windows Security
- Open Settings.
- Select Privacy & security > Windows Security.
- Open Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an action involving
js0smt.dllor the affected application. - Check the detected file path.
- Restore the file only if:
- It is inside the legitimate application installation directory
- The application came from a trusted official installer or company portal
- You recognize the program that owns it
If the file was restored, update the application and run a full security scan. If the path is a temporary folder, a download folder, or an unfamiliar location, do not restore it. Remove the suspicious file and reinstall the application from its official source.
If a third-party antivirus product is installed, open its quarantine or detection history and follow the same process.
Fix 3: Check whether the file exists and whether its architecture matches
Use File Explorer to search for js0smt.dll, but do not move or overwrite every copy you find.
Right-click a candidate file, select Properties, and inspect Location, Digital Signatures if present, and the file’s timestamps. A matching filename does not prove that the file belongs to the application.

If the file exists but the application still fails:
- Do not rename it.
- Do not overwrite it with a downloaded copy.
- Reinstall the owning application.
- Review the application’s logs for another missing DLL.
- Check whether antivirus blocked a dependency.
Fix 4: Investigate a missing dependency

A reputable dependency-analysis utility can also show which imported DLL cannot be loaded, but avoid utilities that promise to download and replace files automatically.
Repair the parent application and install only prerequisites documented for that product. Visual C++, DirectX, and .NET are possible environmental dependencies, but there is no evidence that js0smt.dll itself is part of any of them.
If the application specifically reports a missing Microsoft Visual C++ runtime, use Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable downloads. Install the architecture requested by the application, not simply the package that matches your version of Windows.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components when other programs also fail
SFC and DISM repair protected Windows components. They do not normally restore a missing third-party application DLL, so use them when Windows itself appears damaged or several unrelated programs are failing.

Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected application again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it found and repaired corrupted files, restart and retest. If it reports that some files could not be repaired, run Windows Update, restart, and repeat the checks. If only the Dassault application still fails, return to repairing or reinstalling that application rather than repeating SFC indefinitely.

Fix 6: Update drivers only when evidence points there
A graphics, storage, or security driver can affect an application, but there is no verified evidence that a particular driver causes js0smt.dll errors. Update drivers when the application log, Device Manager, or a recent hardware change points to one.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category, such as Display adapters, Storage controllers, or Network adapters.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.

regsvr32 is for DLLs that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general missing-DLL repair command.
Do not run:
regsvr32 js0smt.dll
unless Dassault documentation specifically instructs you to register this file. An ordinary application runtime may produce an error stating that the module was loaded but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. That result does not mean the DLL is missing.
Avoid random DLL downloads
Downloading js0smt.dll from an untrusted DLL website can give you:
- Malware or a tampered file
- The wrong release
- The wrong architecture
- A file with incompatible exported functions
- A replacement that hides the real damaged installation

Normally no. SFC repairs protected Windows files. A missing or damaged Dassault file usually requires repair or reinstallation of the owning application.
Can I register it with regsvr32?
