If kbdinasa.dll is missing, Windows has probably lost or damaged its Assamese–INSCRIPT keyboard-layout component. kbdinasa.dll is a genuine Microsoft Windows file, not a Visual C++ runtime, DirectX file, .NET library, game dependency, or printer driver.
The layout uses keyboard identifier 0000044D and is loaded when Windows needs the Assamese input method. That is why the error may appear during startup, sign-in, Settings, language changes, or text entry instead of when opening one particular application. Microsoft lists Assamese–INSCRIPT among the keyboard layouts introduced with Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008.

Do not download a loose copy from a DLL website. The file could contain malware, belong to a different Windows build, use the wrong architecture, or fail to repair the damaged component store that caused the error.
1. Repair Windows with DISM and SFC
Time needed: 15–30 minutes, plus a restart
This is the safest first repair for a genuinely missing, corrupted, or incorrectly replaced copy.

- Open Start and type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for DISM to finish. Do not close the window if progress appears to pause.
- Run System File Checker:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows after both commands complete.
DISM repairs the Windows component source. SFC then checks protected system files and replaces damaged copies. A successful result may say that Windows Resource Protection found no integrity violations, or that it found corrupt files and repaired them.
If SFC says it could not repair some files, restart and run the commands again. Also install all available Windows updates before repeating the repair. To save SFC details to your desktop, run:
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%LogsCBSCBS.log > "%userprofile%Desktopsfcdetails.txt"
Repeating DISM and SFC without knowing which component is damaged can be tedious. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for the underlying problems and show what needs attention, while repair actions are completed by the full version; it is optional, and Microsoft’s built-in commands remain the primary repair path.
If DISM cannot find source files, continue to the language-reinstallation step and the Windows Update recovery options below. Do not replace kbdinasa.dll manually first.
2. Remove and add the Assamese keyboard again
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
A partially installed or removed Assamese language component can leave Windows pointing to a layout that is no longer present.
On Windows 11:
- Open Settings.
- Select Time & language.
- Open Language & region.
- Under Preferred languages, find the language associated with the Assamese keyboard.
- Select the three-dot menu and choose Language options.
- Under Keyboards, remove the Assamese–INSCRIPT keyboard if it is listed.
- Restart the computer.
- Return to Settings > Time & language > Language & region.
- Select Add a language.
- Search for Assamese, select it, and choose Next.
- Select Install.
On Windows 10, open Settings > Time & Language > Language, select the relevant language, choose Options, and remove and add the keyboard layout again.
Windows can place a keyboard under a different display language rather than under the language you expect. Check the Language options page for each installed language. After reinstalling, press Windows key + Spacebar and select the Assamese layout. Test typing in Notepad.

If the language installation fails, Windows Update, organizational policy, WSUS, or missing version-matched language media may be blocking the required package. On a managed computer, contact your administrator rather than downloading a CAB file from an unofficial source. Microsoft documents language packs and Features on Demand for supported deployments, but the exact package must match the Windows release and architecture.
3. Check Microsoft Defender quarantine
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
Security software may have quarantined a system file after a false detection or after detecting tampering.
- Open Windows Security from Start.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review recent quarantined items.
- Expand an item only if its path and detection details identify the Windows copy.
- Run a current scan before restoring anything.
Restore the file only when the item is confirmed to be the Microsoft Windows component. If Defender identifies it as a threat, do not restore it merely because the filename is kbdinasa.dll. A quarantined threat may be detected again unless it is explicitly allowed, so investigate the detection rather than repeatedly restoring the file.
If malware may be persistent, select Virus & threat protection > Scan options > Microsoft Defender Offline scan. Save your work first because Windows will restart to perform the scan.

4. Check the file location and architecture
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
Keyboard-layout DLLs are normally installed under %windir%System32. On 64-bit Windows, Windows uses file-system redirection for 32-bit access through SysWOW64. These names do not mean that you should copy files between the folders.
To inspect both expected paths, open PowerShell and run:

A genuine Windows copy should have a valid Microsoft signature. Do not treat a particular file size, version number, or hash as authoritative: Microsoft does not publish a current per-build table for this file, and values can differ between Windows releases.
Be suspicious if the same-named file appears in:
- A game or application directory
- A temporary folder
- A downloads folder
- A user profile directory
- A random folder outside the Windows installation
A file with the right name in the wrong location may be unrelated or malicious. Remove manually copied versions through the process that placed them there, then repair Windows with DISM and SFC.
5. Do not run regsvr32
Time needed: 1 minute
regsvr32 is not a general-purpose DLL repair command. It applies to DLLs that export the DllRegisterServer entry point. Keyboard-layout DLLs use a keyboard-layout entry point such as KbdLayerDescriptor, so registering this file is not an appropriate fix.
Running a command such as this is unnecessary:
regsvr32 kbdinasa.dll
It may produce an error saying that DllRegisterServer was not found. That result does not prove the file is missing and does not repair the keyboard layout.
6. Use Windows Update repair if component servicing fails
Time needed: 30–60 minutes
First install pending updates:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart when prompted.
- Run DISM and SFC again.
On supported Windows 11 installations, Windows also provides a repair reinstall:
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Choose Recovery.
- Find Fix problems using Windows Update.
- Select Reinstall now.
- Follow the prompts.
This reinstalls the current Windows version while preserving apps, files, and settings. Keep the computer connected to power and the internet during the process. If the option is unavailable, the device may be managed, running an unsupported configuration, or unable to obtain the required repair content.

7. Try System Restore after a recent change
Time needed: 15–45 minutes
Use System Restore when the error began immediately after a cleanup utility, update, driver change, or language-component removal and a suitable restore point exists.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select a restore point from before the error began.
- Review the affected programs and confirm the restore.
- Restart and test the Assamese keyboard.
System Restore does not replace personal documents, but it can undo recently changed system files, drivers, registry settings, and installed programs. If no restore point exists, continue with Windows repair rather than searching for a replacement DLL.

Time needed: 10–20 minutes
The error text may name an executable. Record that executable and the full path shown in the dialog.
If Windows has a valid, Microsoft-signed kbdinasa.dll but one third-party application still fails:

- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Select the application.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Try Repair.
- If Repair does not help, uninstall the application.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the latest version from the developer’s official installer.
No specific game or application is reliably identified as the usual owner of this file. Do not install Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, a printer driver, or a display driver solely because an application mentions kbdinasa.dll. Those packages normally do not provide this Windows keyboard-layout component.
If a driver update is independently required by Device Manager, open Device Manager, expand the relevant device category, right-click the device, select Update driver, and follow the prompts. Do not use Device Manager to replace a keyboard-layout DLL.

Guessing which of many installed drivers is stale can take longer than checking each device manually. What the different errors mean
- “kbdinasa.dll was not found” usually means Windows could not locate the named file.
- “The program cannot start because kbdinasa.dll is missing” is a generic missing-DLL message. It does not prove that the file belongs to that program.
- “Could not be loaded” can mean the file is absent, corrupted, blocked, the wrong architecture, or that a required dependency could not be resolved.
- “Not designed to run on Windows” can indicate a damaged or mismatched binary. A wrong 32-bit/64-bit copy is one possible cause.

Is kbdinasa.dll part of Windows?
Yes. It is Microsoft’s Assamese–INSCRIPT keyboard-layout DLL, normally loaded by Windows when that input locale is used.
Can I download kbdinasa.dll separately?
There is no Microsoft-supported standalone download identified for this file. Use Windows Update, DISM, SFC, or the Windows language and keyboard settings instead.
Should I copy it into System32 or SysWOW64?
No. Windows handles the correct location and architecture. Manually choosing between System32 and SysWOW64 can create a mismatched installation.
Does kbdinasa.dll belong to a game?
