kbdturme.dll is a genuine Microsoft Windows component for the Turkmen keyboard layout. It is not a Visual C++ runtime, DirectX file, .NET component, game dependency, or ordinary application DLL.
Windows may report that kbdturme.dll is missing, was not found, could not be loaded, or is “not designed to run on Windows.” The safest repair is to restore Windows components with DISM and System File Checker, then reinstall the Turkmen keyboard layout through Windows Settings if you use it.

Fix 1: Repair Windows with DISM and SFC
Time needed: 15–30 minutes, plus a restart
A damaged Windows component store is the most likely cause when kbdturme.dll is absent from the Windows system directory.

- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish. Do not close the window if progress appears to pause.
- Run System File Checker separately:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows after both commands finish.
The ideal SFC result says that Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations. A message saying that corrupt files were found and repaired is also a successful outcome. Try the program or keyboard layout again after restarting.

If SFC says it could not repair some files, restart once and run the SFC command again. You can also inspect the repair details in:
%windir%LogsCBSCBS.log
If DISM cannot obtain repair files through Windows Update, use a matching Windows installation source:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:RepairSourceWindows /LimitAccess
Replace C:RepairSourceWindows with the actual path to a repair source that matches your installed Windows version. Do not use an arbitrary installation image.

Fix 2: Reinstall the Turkmen keyboard layout
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
kbdturme.dll belongs to the Windows input-language system. It is associated with the Turkmen layout identifier 00000442, also known as tk-Latn. Not every Windows installation needs or actively uses this layout, so its absence is not automatically a sign of malware.
To add or reinstall it in Windows 11:
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Time & language.
- Select Language & region.
- If Turkmen is not listed, select Add a language.
- Search for Turkmen, select it, and choose Next.
- Install the available language features.
- If Turkmen is already installed, select its three-dot menu.
- Choose Language options.
- Under Keyboards, select Add a keyboard.
- Add the Turkmen keyboard layout.
- Sign out or restart if Windows requests it.
Windows 10 uses a similar path:
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Time & Language.
- Open Language.
- Select Add a preferred language if Turkmen is missing.
- Select the installed language, then choose Options.
- Add the Turkmen keyboard under Keyboards.
A full language pack is not always required to add a keyboard layout. If you do not need Turkmen, remove the unused layout instead, restart, and then run DISM and SFC again. This can clear a stale input-language reference that keeps trying to load the file.

Use Microsoft’s keyboard-layout instructions if the Settings labels differ on your Windows build.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
Antivirus software can quarantine a legitimate system file after a detection or update. Do not restore it automatically. First confirm that the file belongs to Windows and has Microsoft’s digital signature.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Open the detection associated with
kbdturme.dll. - Review the original path, detection name, and action.
- If the file was in the normal Windows system location and its signature is Microsoft Corporation, review the detection carefully before choosing Restore.
- Run a full Windows Security scan after restoring it.
- If the file was outside the Windows directory, unsigned, or associated with suspicious activity, do not restore it. Run a full scan and repair Windows with DISM and SFC instead.
A present file is not automatically authentic, and a missing file does not prove malware. The path, publisher signature, and repair history matter.

Fix 4: Verify the file path and digital signature
Time needed: 5 minutes
The normal location for a native Windows keyboard-layout DLL is under:
%windir%System32
On 64-bit Windows, System32 contains native 64-bit system components. SysWOW64 is not a general backup directory. Do not copy kbdturme.dll between those folders.

To check a file that already exists:
- Open File Explorer.
- Enter
%windir%System32in the address bar. - Search for
kbdturme.dll. - Right-click the file and select Properties.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab.
- Select the signature and choose Details.
- Confirm that Windows reports a valid signature from Microsoft Corporation.
- Check the General and Details tabs for the file description and location.
If the file is in a user profile, a temporary folder, a game directory, or another unexpected location, do not replace the Windows copy with it. Use Windows servicing to restore the correct architecture and build.
Fix 5: Install pending Windows updates
Time needed: 10–30 minutes, depending on downloads
A Windows update may repair a damaged component or complete an incomplete language-feature installation.
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart when prompted.
- Check for updates again after restarting.
- Test the keyboard layout or affected program.
If the error began immediately after an update, note the timing. Do not remove updates as a first step unless Windows Update itself is failing or System Restore provides a suitable point.
Fix 6: Use System Restore if the problem began after a change
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
System Restore can reverse a recent system change while preserving personal files. It is useful when the error began after an update, cleanup operation, language change, or security action.
- Press Win+R.
- Enter:
rstrui.exe
- Select OK.
- Choose an appropriate restore point from before the problem began.
- Select Next, review the affected changes, and choose Finish.
- Let Windows restart and complete the restoration.
Use System Restore only when a suitable restore point exists. If the issue remains, return to the DISM and SFC steps rather than copying a DLL manually.

Fix 7: Check drivers only when the symptom points to the keyboard device
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
kbdturme.dll is a keyboard-layout component, not normally a hardware driver problem. Device Manager will not usually repair a missing layout DLL. Check drivers only if the physical keyboard, USB connection, or all keyboard layouts are malfunctioning.
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Keyboards.
- Right-click the affected physical keyboard.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
Do not uninstall the keyboard device merely because kbdturme.dll is missing. Repair the Windows component and input layout first.

Time needed: 30 minutes to several hours
If DISM cannot repair the component store and SFC continues to report unrepaired files, use Windows recovery options rather than downloading an isolated DLL.
Before continuing, back up important files. Then consider these options in order:
- Try Windows Recovery options from Settings > System > Recovery in Windows 11, or Settings > Update & Security > Recovery in Windows 10.
- Use System Restore if an appropriate restore point exists.
- Perform an in-place Windows repair using official installation media that matches the installed edition and architecture, choosing the option to keep personal files and applications where offered.
- Use a reset or full recovery only after confirming that your files are backed up and the less destructive options are unsuitable.

Why regsvr32 and DLL downloads are the wrong fix
Do not register kbdturme.dll with regsvr32. Ordinary COM DLLs may expose DllRegisterServer, but keyboard-layout DLLs use layout entry points such as KbdLayerDescriptor and are loaded by the Windows input system. Registering one does not repair the keyboard layout and may only produce another error.

Do not download a replacement DLL from a random source or copy one into System32 or SysWOW64. The file may be for the wrong Windows build or architecture, may be modified, or may leave the underlying component-store and language configuration problem untouched. The safe sources are Windows servicing, Windows Update, and the official language and keyboard settings.

Reinstalling Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, a graphics driver, or a game is not a supported first-line fix for this filename. If the error appears only in one old application, repair Windows first, then investigate that application’s input-language or compatibility configuration.

FAQ
Is kbdturme.dll a Microsoft file?
Yes. It is the Microsoft Windows Turkmen Keyboard Layout component. Its presence does not mean that every Windows installation must use Turkmen.
Why does Windows need a Turkmen keyboard layout?
Windows loads the layout when the corresponding Turkmen input locale is installed or selected. It converts physical key presses according to the Turkmen layout.
Is kbdturme.dll safe?
A genuine copy in the Windows system directory with a valid Microsoft signature is expected. Verify both the path and signature rather than trusting the filename alone.
Should I install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
