Senior game designer Ondřej Bittner and global PR manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling tied the larger range of characters to the sequel’s setting in Kuttenberg, a major city and financial center, rather than the rural villages prominent in the first game. Bittner discussed Italian, German, and Jewish characters and the importance of representing their perspectives.

Stolz-Zwilling said the team had checked its choices repeatedly and expanded its historical research through universities, museums, and academics. Those are the developers’ explanations of their approach, not independent verification of every character, scene, or historical detail.
What did the developers say about outside influence?
Stolz-Zwilling said neither publisher PLAION nor parent company Embracer told Warhorse what to include. Describing the studio’s position, he said: “It seems like someone is always trying to brand us somehow, and we are just trying to make a cool videogame.” Bittner added: “We think the extreme voices are just never happy.” Both comments appeared in PC Gamer’s February 2025 interview.
Warhorse co-founder and creative director Daniel Vávra also said the game reflected his own intent and denied that anyone had influenced him artistically. In a statement reproduced by ComicBook.com on January 18, 2025, he wrote: “The game is exactly what I wanted it to be. No one has tried to influence me as an artist in any way, and anyone who knows me knows I wouldn’t let them anyway.” He described the aim as showing medieval Bohemian life as it could have happened while telling an interesting story. Did the controversy affect sales or reception?
There is no measured sales or reception analysis in the cited accounts that isolates an effect from the controversy. In a PC Gamer interview published January 9, 2026, executive producer and co-founder Martin Klíma said he could not know for sure whether it changed the game’s reception.
