1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe best first setting depends on where you play. On PC, begin with a preset your hardware can reasonably handle, then lower demanding visual options one at a time while checking the places where you actually play. On PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, install Patch 1.9.7 and use its performance-oriented presentation as your baseline. On every platform, start with the standard difficulty unless you specifically want the extra navigation and gameplay pressure associated with Hardcore.
There is no verified universal preset or guaranteed frame-rate setting for the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance. The published PC tiers are requirements, not benchmark results, and the next-generation console figures are update targets rather than a promise of a locked frame rate in every scene.

First identify your platform and game version
Settings advice for the original game cannot be applied across all versions. Deep Silver and PLAION’s Patch 1.9.7 notes specifically cover PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. They do not establish the same behavior for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch.
| Where you play | What the available evidence supports | What not to assume |
|---|---|---|
| Windows PC | Use PLAION’s minimum and recommended hardware tiers as a starting point, then tune in your own game conditions. | Meeting a tier does not guarantee smooth play at every resolution, setting, driver, operating-system build, or store version. |
| PlayStation 5 | Patch 1.9.7 targets 60 FPS at an Ultra-quality target, uses dynamic resolution in GPU-demanding areas, and includes a toggle for higher-resolution textures and models. | The target is not a guarantee of a locked 60 FPS in every scene. |
| Xbox Series X|S | The same Patch 1.9.7 performance and visual-quality notes apply to the named Series consoles. | Do not extend those claims to Xbox One. |
| PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch | The official support index treats these as separate platform categories. | The next-generation resolution, asset, and frame-rate statements do not automatically apply. |
Check the title screen or your platform’s update information before changing settings. A patch difference can matter more than a small graphics adjustment, particularly on consoles where the available options are fixed by the game build.

PC: use the published requirements as a starting point
PLAION’s System Requirements | Kingdom Come: Deliverance page lists the following specifications for the original release. They describe what the publisher considers minimum or recommended hardware; they are not independent performance measurements.
| Component | Minimum listed by PLAION | Recommended listed by PLAION |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | Intel Core i5-2500K or AMD Phenom II X4 940 | Intel Core i7-3770 or AMD FX-8350 |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 or AMD Radeon HD 7870 | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 580 |
| Storage | 70 GB | 90 GB |
| Drive guidance | SSD recommended | SSD recommended |
The requirements page also lists Windows 7, 8, and 10-era operating systems. Treat that as the game’s published-era information, not as confirmation that a current Steam client or every current Windows configuration supports those versions. Store-client, driver, and operating-system compatibility should be checked for the installation you are actually using.

A cautious first-time PC setup
- Compare your whole system, not just the graphics card. Check processor, memory, GPU, and free storage against the table. A graphics card above the listed minimum does not remove possible processor, memory, or storage bottlenecks.
- Install to an SSD when possible. PLAION recommends an SSD at both tiers. This is a storage recommendation, not a promised frame-rate increase, but it is the publisher’s preferred installation approach.
- Begin with a reasonable in-game preset. If your computer is near the minimum tier, start conservatively. If it is closer to the recommended tier, begin higher but leave room to adjust. Do not treat either tier as a guaranteed “high” or “ultra” result.
- Play a representative stretch of the game. Check a busy settlement, travel, interiors, and any location where you notice hitching. A setting that appears fine in a quiet area may behave differently in a more demanding one.
- Change one demanding visual option at a time. Lower a setting, repeat the same type of scene, and observe whether the problem improves. Changing everything simultaneously makes it impossible to know which adjustment helped or which visual compromise you dislike.
- Stop when consistency is acceptable. A slightly lower image-quality choice that avoids repeated stalls is usually a better beginner experience than a higher setting that repeatedly interrupts movement or combat. The game’s published requirements do not identify a single best preset or quantify the gain from any individual option.
How to decide what to change when performance is poor
- Persistent low frame rate: reduce visual demand gradually from the preset you selected, retesting after each change. Keep the resolution and image clarity you can tolerate, rather than blindly selecting the lowest values.
- Short freezes or traversal hitching: check that the game is installed on an SSD if available, then compare the same route after each adjustment. Do not infer that a one-time hitch proves a particular setting is responsible.
- Performance varies by location: use the busiest area you regularly visit as your decision test. A setting that works only in an empty field is not a useful baseline for a first playthrough.
- Unclear results: record your hardware, operating-system version, game build, resolution, and changed options. That information is more useful when consulting current platform or game support than a vague claim that the game is “lagging.”
Because the available material does not provide a complete, authoritative list of current PC menu labels or measured effects for each option, avoid guides that promise a specific frame-rate gain from an unnamed “best” preset. Your own scene-to-scene comparison is the reliable way to choose among the options your build exposes.
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S: start from Patch 1.9.7
The official Deep Silver/PLAION notes for Patch 1.9.7 describe improved performance and visual quality on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The update targets 60 FPS at an Ultra-quality target, introduces dynamic resolution for smoother output in GPU-demanding areas, and lets you toggle higher-resolution textures and models.

| Patch 1.9.7 item | Published detail | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Frame-rate target | Up to 60 FPS target at the Ultra-quality target | A target for the named consoles, not a locked result in every scene. |
| Resolution behavior | 2560×1440 native render resolution with an upscaled 3840×2160 output | The output signal and internal render resolution are different; a 4K television does not mean every pixel is rendered natively. |
| Dynamic resolution | Used in areas that place heavier demand on the GPU | The game can adjust internal resolution to help sustain smoother performance. |
| High-resolution assets | Toggle for higher-resolution textures and models | This is a visual-detail choice. Test the two states on your display and in demanding areas instead of assuming one is universally faster. |
Console setup steps
- Confirm the console is running Patch 1.9.7. The stated targets and toggles belong to that update and those two console families.
- Use the game’s default next-generation presentation first. It is the closest documented baseline to the publisher’s 60 FPS and Ultra-quality target combination.
- Test the higher-resolution textures and models toggle. Compare image detail and smoothness in the same demanding area. The notes confirm the toggle exists, but do not claim a universal performance penalty or benefit for every scene.
- Judge smoothness over a complete play session. Dynamic resolution is intended to respond to GPU-heavy areas, so a single quiet room is not enough to establish how the presentation behaves throughout the game.
If a scene dips below the target, that does not by itself show that the update is malfunctioning. The patch notes describe a target and dynamic-resolution behavior, not a guarantee that every view will remain at 60 FPS.
Do not transfer next-generation claims to older consoles
PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch are separate support categories. The available evidence does not provide a complete settings walkthrough or equivalent resolution and frame-rate statement for those systems. Do not promise the Patch 1.9.7 presentation, the 2560×1440 internal render, the 3840×2160 upscale, or the 60 FPS target to an owner of one of those platforms.

| Mode choice | What can be stated with confidence | Good beginner use |
|---|---|---|
| Standard/Normal | Retains the ordinary assistance expected by the base experience. | Best default while learning navigation, combat, quests, and the game’s pacing. |
| Hardcore | The dated community description says aids are removed and debuffs are applied. | Choose it deliberately when extra navigation and gameplay pressure are part of the appeal, not as a performance setting. |
Difficulty does not substitute for graphics tuning. If the problem is stutter or low frame rate, changing difficulty will not address the hardware or rendering demand. Likewise, choosing Standard will not make a platform meet a frame-rate target it cannot sustain.
Common beginner mistakes and safer fixes
- Applying PC advice to a console: first identify the platform and patch. The next-generation notes are not a universal console guide.
- Reading “recommended” as a guarantee: the PLAION tiers are requirements, not test results. Expect scene, resolution, driver, and build differences.
- Changing many options at once: use one-change comparisons so you can restore the last setting that looked better.
- Testing only in an easy scene: include busy settlements and travel, where GPU or streaming demand may be higher.
- Choosing Hardcore to solve a technical issue: use difficulty for challenge preference; use graphics and installation choices for performance.
- Assuming a 4K output is native 4K rendering: on the named next-generation consoles, the patch notes distinguish a 2560×1440 native render from a 3840×2160 upscaled output.
Which edition or platform should you install?
Steam lists both the base game and the Royal Edition. Edition selection is separate from the performance decisions above: verify the edition, current build, and platform compatibility before buying or installing, but do not treat the Royal Edition as a prerequisite for changing settings. The same platform-specific cautions apply to whichever edition you own.
First-session checklist
- Write down whether you are on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch.
- Confirm the game build, especially whether a Series console is running Patch 1.9.7.
- On PC, compare processor, memory, graphics card, and storage with PLAION’s published tiers.
- Use an SSD on PC when available.
- Start with a conservative or reasonable preset rather than assuming the recommended tier guarantees a particular quality level.
- Test a representative busy area before settling on settings.
- Adjust one demanding visual option at a time and keep notes.
- On PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, compare the higher-resolution textures-and-models toggle in the same demanding scene.
- Use Standard/Normal difficulty for the first run unless you specifically want the challenge described for Hardcore.
The practical verdict
For a smoother beginning, identify the platform first, use the published PC requirements only as a hardware guide, and tune your own PC build incrementally. On PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Patch 1.9.7’s dynamic resolution and documented 60 FPS target provide the appropriate baseline, while the high-resolution asset toggle lets you choose how much visual detail to keep. Older-console owners should not inherit those claims, and first-time players should treat Hardcore as an optional challenge rather than a default setting.
