Kingdom Come: Deliverance II rewards preparation and practice more than rushing from fight to fight. Learn one weapon well, keep opponents in front of you, maintain your gear, and use training, quests, and Alchemy to build Henry’s skills. These 15 tips focus on the choices that make the early game easier without prescribing a single required route.
Combat: build reliable habits before taking on groups
1. Expect combat to take practice
The game’s publisher describes combat as a matter of mastering parries, exploiting enemy weaknesses, and caring for weapons—not simply raising a character level. Early losses are a reason to adjust your approach and practice, rather than assume that more time spent fighting will automatically make every encounter easy. 2. Find local combat instruction

3. Focus on one weapon style first
Choose a weapon type that suits your approach and spend early practice improving with it. Method’s beginner guide advises against dividing early combat training among too many weapons. 4. Learn counters and parry timing
Parries and well-timed counters are central to combat, but do not expect a special counter to be available whenever you want one. Method recommends learning the timing and treating Master Strikes as an opportunity to read and answer an opponent, not as a repeatable shortcut. 5. Keep enemies in front of Henry
Being surrounded makes it harder to respond to attacks. Move so enemies stay within your view, and avoid charging into the middle of a group. If opponents start circling behind you, reposition before committing to another exchange. 6. Use terrain to funnel a group

8. Use a weapon Henry can handle
PowerPyx recommends using weapons that meet Henry’s skill requirements. If a weapon feels ineffective or difficult to use, check its requirements and Henry’s relevant skill before deciding that the whole combat system is the problem. 9. Build skills by using them

10. Use teachers and quests to advance
Practice is not the only route: the publisher says teachers and quest completion also contribute to learning. Treat quests as a way to make progress and encounter new opportunities, not just as detours from combat training. Method suggests optional early activities involving recovering the horse and dog, obtaining Saviour Schnapps, or learning blacksmithing; these are suggested possibilities, not a mandatory quest order. 11. Consider Alchemy for progression
Warhorse producer Ondřej Sobola recommends the Fox potion for a significant increase in experience gained across activities when brewed successfully. This is a developer tip; it is not an independently tested guarantee, and it depends on successfully brewing the potion. 12. Rent a bed for connected storage
Warhorse programmer Petr Smrček recommends renting a legal bed in a pub. The lodging comes with a large-capacity chest, and the developer tips describe personal chests as connected so stored goods can be accessed elsewhere. 13. Read the Codex as it fills in

14. Use stealth and key opportunities when combat is risky
Not every obstacle needs to become a fight. If a locked chest is beyond Henry’s current lockpicking ability, the developer tips suggest checking who owns it and considering whether there is a key to obtain. Pickpocketing and theft can carry consequences: PowerPyx warns that crimes can affect how townspeople perceive Henry. 15. Verify save options and controls in your current version
PowerPyx’s February 3, 2025 guide reports that “Save & Exit to menu” creates a free manual save and describes Saviour Schnapps as another save method. Because those instructions are from a dated secondary guide and may be patch- or platform-sensitive, check the current in-game help before relying on a particular save option. Method notes that clothing and armor can affect combat capacity and NPC reactions; PowerPyx recommends outfit templates for combat, conversation, and stealth. Those are secondary-guide descriptions, so check current menus and controls in your version rather than assuming a particular outfit feature or effect works identically on every platform. The useful beginner principle is to consider what you are about to do before setting out, instead of treating one outfit as ideal for every encounter.
