For a first playthrough, these seven quests make a useful early shortlist once Trosky opens up after Laboratores: they offer a mix of combat practice, companion and family stories, and routes tied to the wedding. They are curated picks, not a source-backed ranking of the game’s “best” quests; exact availability can depend on story progress and your route.
When to start exploring and how to avoid missing content
Trosky is the starting region; Kuttenberg comes later in the main story. Gamer Guides lists 17 Trosky side quests and says most become available after Laboratores, the point at which free exploration opens up. That makes it a sensible time to look for nearby quests, not a guarantee that every quest below is immediately available.

Quest totals and checkpoints are guide counts and walkthrough advice, not developer-published completion requirements. PowerPyx counts 126 quests in total—32 main quests, 40 side quests, and 54 tasks—in its February 3, 2025 guide. It says the journal tracks these categories separately and warns that some side content can be missed. Its regional guidance is to finish Trosky content before Necessary Evil and Kuttenberg content before Oratores. Treat these as useful checkpoints, rather than proof that every player has the same unlock sequence.
For a practical route, clear quests you find in Trosky before major story commitments, then reassess the map and journal when you reach Kuttenberg. KCD2Quest’s guide, updated June 2, 2026, advises clearing early Trosky routes before For Victory and saving before risky branches. Story progress, time, and the outcomes of quest-related NPCs can affect completion, so keep a manual save before consequential choices. KCD2Quest specifically flags accusations, theft, duels, and faction handoffs as moments worth saving before.

7 side quests to consider first
This is an intentionally mixed shortlist, not a fixed order. Start with whichever quest is available and suits your play style; the guides do not establish comparable ratings for difficulty, duration, rewards, or story quality.
-
Combat Training I
A straightforward candidate if you want a skills-oriented activity early. It appears in the Trosky quest list, but the available guide material does not establish a specific reward or exact unlock sequence.

-
Materia Prima
Consider this if you are taking Miller Kreyzl’s route toward the wedding. Gamer Guides calls it the first side quest on the Miller’s side and describes it as one way to obtain a Wedding Crashers invitation. The quest introduces lockpicking and pickpocketing instruction. Since other wedding routes exist, this recommendation is route-dependent rather than essential for everyone.
-
The Hermit
A blacksmith-side storyline to keep in mind, rather than assume is available at the first free-roam opportunity. PowerPyx places it after The Blacksmith’s Son and The Jaunt in its main quest order. KCD2.org’s index outlines elements involving a grave, a sword, Konrad, and forging.

If you want a varied start, mix a training quest with a companion or family story, then follow either the Miller or blacksmith thread that matches your wedding plans. If your priority is simply doing quests before they can be affected by the main story, use the regional checkpoints and save before consequential branches instead of trying to follow a universal seven-quest sequence.
Why there is no universal “best seven”
The available guides provide quest lists, selected walkthroughs, route notes, and missability warnings; they do not use a shared method to rank these quests against one another. The shortlist therefore weighs practical variety and route considerations rather than claiming an objective order. It also does not mean Trosky contains the only side content worth saving time for: GamesRadar’s September 30, 2025 feature describes a later Kuttenberg murder investigation involving corpse examination, suspect questioning, crime-scene investigation, and Mutt tracking. That is a later-region example, not an early Trosky recommendation.
