If Kingdom Come: Deliverance II keeps crashing on your Steam Deck, there is no confirmed universal fix in the available evidence. Start with reversible checks—update SteamOS, restart, and rule out third-party apps—then test compatibility and graphics settings one at a time. These are general Steam troubleshooting steps, not verified KCD II-specific crash fixes.
Try these Steam Deck troubleshooting steps
Change one thing at a time and see whether the crash recurs. This makes it easier to identify whether a change helped rather than treating any step as a guaranteed fix. Steam’s general troubleshooting guidance supports the following sequence:
- Update SteamOS and restart. Install any available SteamOS updates, then restart the Deck. Steam recommends updates and a restart as early steps for instability. Steam Deck software and troubleshooting guide.
- Rule out third-party applications. Exit or disable apps installed through Desktop Mode, restart the Deck, and test the game again. If stability changes, re-enable apps individually to isolate a possible conflict. Steam’s troubleshooting guide.
- Test Proton compatibility. In your Steam Library, open Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, select the gear icon or Properties, open Compatibility, enable the option to force a compatibility tool, and try the latest Proton version available. This is a general Steam suggestion, not a confirmed KCD II crash remedy. Steam notes that choosing Proton may cause Steam to download the Windows version if only a Linux version is installed. Steam’s Steam-app troubleshooting guidance.
- Reduce graphics load. Try a lower graphics preset or reduce individual settings, then check whether the crash still happens. Steam recommends this as a general troubleshooting experiment; it does not establish that graphics settings cause every KCD II crash. Steam’s Steam-app troubleshooting guidance.
If the problem continues, Steam suggests checking whether changes in the Steam Deck Beta address the issue, consulting Steam Deck discussions, or contacting Steam Support. Before seeking help, note the game build, SteamOS channel and version, Proton choice, whether the crash occurs at launch or during play, and any error text. Steam Deck troubleshooting and support.
Is there a confirmed KCD II update or Proton fix?
The cited updates do not establish a Steam Deck crash fix. Steam Deck HQ reported on June 25, 2026 that the June 24 Proton Experimental update included “Improved controller support on desktops in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II.” That changelog item concerns controller support on desktop systems; it does not say Steam Deck crashes were fixed. Check the game’s current Steam Deck compatibility details
Valve uses four compatibility states: Verified, Playable, Unsupported, and Unknown. Playable may require configuration by the player; Unknown means Valve has not checked the game. Valve says its compatibility review is ongoing, so check the live details on the game’s Steam Library or Store page rather than relying on an older rating. A compatibility label is a general signal, not a promise that every setup will be crash-free. Valve’s Steam Deck Verified page.
