Follow the trail west to the wolves, take at least one wolf ear, then return it to Siegfried. The reported start trigger and reward differ between published guides, so use the in-game journal and reward screen to confirm what applies in your playthrough.
How to start Sheep Among Wolves
Find Herdsboy Siegfried north of Tachov in Trosky and speak with him about the wolves threatening his sheep. Guide accounts differ on when he offers the task:

- PowerPyx reports that you must first complete the Mutt side quest, wait 72 in-game hours, then ask Innkeeper Betty in Troskowitz, “Any news here?” before talking to Siegfried and agreeing to help.
- Gamer Guides describes visiting Siegfried directly and does not mention Betty or the wait.
Because these walkthroughs do not establish one universal trigger sequence, try speaking with Siegfried first. If he does not offer the task, the Betty-and-wait sequence is the alternative reported by PowerPyx.
Where to find the wolves
From Siegfried, head west toward the task area. PowerPyx describes investigating blood on the path and following the trail. Gamer Guides points to sheep remains instead. These are two guide descriptions of clues along the route, not confirmed separate quest paths.

Use Mutt to track, if available
Gamer Guides says Mutt can help locate the sheep remains: speak to him, choose the tracking option, and follow the scent. This is a suggested way to find the trail, not a documented requirement for completing the task.
Defeat the wolves and take an ear
Both walkthroughs direct you to kill a wolf and take its ears by butchering the body. PowerPyx says one ear is enough to turn in. It also reports that unconscious wolves can be butchered for ears without increasing the “Animals killed” statistic; treat that as the guide’s achievement-related advice, not a guaranteed result for every game version or situation.

For combat, Gamer Guides recommends focusing on the nearest wolf, waiting for the green shield prompt to parry, then counterattacking once to conserve stamina.
Return to Siegfried and complete the task
Go back to Siegfried and choose “About the wolves.” Give him at least one wolf ear to complete the turn-in, according to PowerPyx. Its walkthrough says that handing over one ear or several changes his dialogue but not the reward.

What reward does Sheep Among Wolves give?
The published reward lists conflict, so neither should be treated as definitive without checking your own game. PowerPyx lists Survival XP, Reputation, 11 Groschen, Cheap wine, a Weak Marigold decoction, two Bandages, two Dried apples, and a Cooked carrot. Gamer Guides lists 25 Groschen, Schnapps, and a Weak Saviour Schnapps. Check the completion or reward screen and your inventory for the items actually awarded.

PowerPyx reports that finishing Sheep Among Wolves marks two shepherds for the tasks The Lost Sheep and Carrot on a Stick. It also says both remain available at the point of no return in Main Quest 24: Oratores. The Gamer Guides task walkthrough does not confirm those follow-ups, so check your journal after completion.
