The original Switch cloud releases are no longer sold and are scheduled to stop working June 9, 2027.
What is included in KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III]?
The collection groups three releases, combining playable games with two HD cutscene compilations. Square Enix lists the collection for Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a scheduled launch date of October 8, 2026. The publisher also says the components are available individually. Square Enix’s collection page lists the lineup:

- KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue: Dream Drop Distance HD, the χ Back Cover movie, and 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A fragmentary passage –.
- KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind: the game and Re Mind DLC.
Square Enix separately says KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX- will be available natively on the original Switch. That does not mean the entire new collection is native on Switch 1: the publisher identifies the other new releases as current-generation versions.
Kingdom Hearts on Switch vs. PS5 and Xbox: what differs?
| Choice | How you play | Format listed by publisher/store | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Switch 2 | Native game; handheld or docked play | Physical and digital | Players who value portability, or want the boxed collection on a Nintendo system |
| PS5 | Native game on a current-generation console | Physical and digital | Players who already own PS5 or specifically want the physical collection |
| Xbox Series X|S | Native game on a current-generation console | Digital bundle listed by Xbox | Players already in the Xbox ecosystem or who prefer the Xbox digital edition |
Square Enix’s announcement lists physical and digital editions for Switch 2 and PS5; the Xbox store presents the bundle as a digital preorder. Availability and inventory can vary by region. For the boxed collection, Square Enix warns: “To play the physical version of KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I–III], an internet connection is required to download additional data.” A physical copy therefore still requires an internet connection for that download.

The Xbox store listing advertises 4K Ultra HD, 60 fps+, Optimized for Xbox Series X|S, Smart Delivery, and Xbox Play Anywhere. These are capabilities advertised on the store page, not independent comparative performance tests; the available information does not establish that one console version performs better than another. Check the Xbox listing for its current platform and purchase details.
Is the Kingdom Hearts Switch version cloud-based?
The older Kingdom Hearts releases on the original Switch were cloud versions: Nintendo explains that cloud games stream from a server rather than downloading the full game to the console. Nintendo’s cloud-game FAQ says stable high-speed internet is required; if the connection becomes unstable, service disconnects after a few minutes. Nintendo Switch Online is not required for cloud play itself, though a game’s online features may require membership. Nintendo recommends trying a game’s trial on your own network where one is available, but a successful trial cannot guarantee future connection stability.

Those cloud-service limitations apply to the original Switch cloud editions, not the new Switch 2 collection, which Square Enix describes as a native release. Nintendo’s FAQ currently says cloud versions are available only in the United States and Canada.
Can you buy the old Switch cloud collection now?
No. Square Enix ended sales of all four Switch cloud products on June 9, 2026 at 14:59 UTC: 1.5+2.5 ReMIX Cloud Version, 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue Cloud Version, III + Re Mind Cloud Version, and INTEGRUM MASTERPIECE for Cloud. The publisher’s notice schedules the cloud service to end on June 9, 2027 at 14:59 UTC. Existing owners may use those editions until that service end date. Square Enix’s discontinuation notice has the full terms.

Do older digital purchases get a discount or transfer saves?
Square Enix says qualifying owners of individual digital releases on Switch Cloud, PS4, or Xbox One can receive a 50% discount on eligible digital preorders or post-launch purchases of corresponding new editions. The eligible titles depend on the platform and collection component. The publisher’s support notice says Switch cloud owners can receive the discount on the corresponding Switch 2 digital edition; ownership of INTEGRUM MASTERPIECE for Cloud qualifies for discounts on all digital versions. The offer excludes the physical collection edition. Check the relevant storefront for the specific entitlement before buying rather than assuming every prior purchase qualifies.
Square Enix says Switch cloud save data can transfer to Switch 2. Its announcement says save-data transfer is not supported for the upgrade paths it discusses from PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Series X|S. This is specific to those stated platform upgrades; it does not establish rules for other save systems.

Which platform-specific bonuses and preorder terms matter?
Square Enix lists an in-game Keyblade for each platform: Long Night on Switch 2, Midnight Blue on PS5, and Phantom Green on Xbox Series X|S. The purchase types that qualify vary by platform and bundle, so check the edition’s store page.
As of October 7, 2026, the Xbox store advertises 48 hours of early access for preorders placed by 11:59 p.m. on October 7. That is an Xbox-store offer, not a general promise for every platform or later purchase; verify the live listing before relying on it. Xbox’s product page carries its current preorder terms.

Which Kingdom Hearts collection should you buy?
- Choose Switch 2 if handheld play matters most. Its collection is native rather than cloud streamed, and Square Enix lists physical and digital options.
- Choose PS5 if you already own one or want a physical copy. Confirm local stock and account for the required download of additional data for the boxed edition.
- Choose Xbox Series X|S if it is your home console and a digital purchase suits you. Check the current store listing for platform features and any live preorder offer.
- Do not choose the old Switch cloud version as a new purchase: sales have ended, and its service has a published end date.
If you already own an older digital edition, verify the exact discount and save-transfer eligibility for your account and platform before choosing an upgrade. Since no independent performance comparison is established here, the practical choice is determined by portability, format, existing ownership, and the stated platform terms.
