In Kingdom Two Crowns, the safest early strategy is to build defenses at a pace your recruits and coin supply can support. Secure your first island before sailing onward, keep coins available as both spending money and protection for your crown, and plan around seasons that continue while you travel. The game supports solo and co-op play, but online requirements depend on your platform.
How the core loop works
Kingdom Two Crowns is a side-scrolling micro-strategy game. You recruit subjects, spend coins to build and expand, explore beyond your borders, defend against the Greed at night, and eventually lead soldiers against its source. Coins serve two purposes: they fund your kingdom, and they can be taken from your purse before the Greed reaches your crown. The crown is the critical survival condition. What to prioritize early
Secure a camp before expanding
Build your defenses gradually rather than pushing outward as quickly as possible. An enlarged territory is only useful if you can protect its walls, people, and approaches when night falls. Raw Fury’s June 2025 beginner advice likewise recommends gradual wall-building and warns against overextending. Budget coins—and avoid carrying more than you need
Before spending, consider whether a purchase improves your ability to recruit, build, or protect the kingdom. Coins are also a buffer against attacks on the monarch, so spending every coin can leave you vulnerable. Conversely, carrying an unnecessary surplus is not always safe: the developer FAQ says an overfilled purse can drop coins onto the ground or into water, and dropped coins can distract pursuers. Recruit and stabilize before sailing
The second island has resources unavailable on the first, but the Greed grows stronger as your kingdom develops. Make sure your first island has a secure base and enough recruited people to support it before you leave. There is no universally correct departure point: weigh your immediate defenses, available recruits, readiness for stronger attacks, and the seasonal timing of a voyage. (Raw Fury advice on Xbox Wire)
Plan around seasons and abandoned islands
Travel between islands does not stop the campaign clock. The developer FAQ says seasons continue while you are away and that winter eventually ends, but advises financial preparation. It also states that walls, towers, and some equipment on an island can decay while the monarch is elsewhere. Avoid treating a departure as a pause: consider what you leave behind and whether your resources can cover the difficult stretch ahead. Use gems carefully
Gems unlock content, but the 2018 developer FAQ describes them as finite and says they do not respawn after being lost or spent. It also says gem-based unlocks remain unlocked after crown loss and can later be obtained with coins. Spend or transport gems deliberately rather than assuming a lost gem can be replaced. Because the FAQ is from 2018, verify the exact behavior in your version if it is decisive to your route. (Developer FAQ)

A crown loss is not necessarily a complete campaign wipe. According to the same 2018 developer FAQ, an heir rebuilds, and previously unlocked gem content remains unlocked; days, seasons, and wave difficulty reset. Treat that as the FAQ’s stated behavior rather than a guarantee covering every current platform or update. (Developer FAQ)

Solo or co-op?
The official game page describes local and online co-op with drop-in/drop-out play. Co-op can suit players who prefer to coordinate decisions with a partner; solo keeps every expansion and spending decision with one player. On PlayStation, the product page specifies online play for up to two players and requires PS Plus for online play. That subscription requirement is specific to PlayStation and should not be assumed for PC, Xbox, Switch, or mobile. Check your platform’s current listing for its own requirements. Which content is included or available can vary by edition and platform, so check the current storefront listing before buying or starting an expansion.
