If you already own the original game
You do not need to rebuy the full game. Nintendo directs existing owners to the $19.99 Upgrade Pack at its announced US launch price. The original Kirby and the Forgotten Land is required to use the pack; it unlocks the Switch 2 Edition content. Nintendo Support.

Buy the full Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World, which Nintendo announced at $79.99 in the US for launch. The Upgrade Pack is not a standalone copy of the game.

Does it run better on Switch 2?
Nintendo describes the Switch 2 Edition as having improved resolution and a faster frame rate. Its announcement says, “Improved resolution and faster framerate while playing the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.” The official materials cited here do not quantify either improvement with a specific resolution, frame rate, or before-and-after comparison. That supports a qualitative improvement claim, not a promise of a particular FPS or resolution.

Is the Switch 2 version worth upgrading to?
For an owner of the original game, the decision is whether the new Star-Crossed World content and Nintendo’s stated visual and frame-rate improvements are worth the Upgrade Pack’s announced $19.99 US launch price. New buyers should compare the full edition at its announced $79.99 US launch price with their interest in that added content. Neither price is confirmed here as the current price, and the available official performance descriptions do not establish a numerical gain.
