Start with this diagnostic checklist
Before replacing anything, record:
- Which program shows the error
- The complete message, including the executable name
- When it started: after a Kaspersky update, uninstall, quarantine event, disk restore, or cleanup
- Whether the affected application is 32-bit or 64-bit
- Whether Kaspersky is still installed
- Where any existing copy of
klcp.dllis located

It is associated historically with Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal, where it is described as the Kaspersky Anti-Virus Container Params Library.
The filename is not exclusive to one Kaspersky generation. Later Kaspersky products and components can use different builds, paths, and architectures. The correct repair depends on the product that owns the file.

1. Identify the Kaspersky installation that owns the file
This is the most important step when multiple Kaspersky products or old installations have existed on the computer.
Search for existing copies
- Press Windows key + E.
- Select This PC in the left pane.
- In the search box, enter:
text
klcp.dll
- Allow the search to finish.
- Right-click each result and select Open file location.
- Record the complete folder path.
A path inside a Kaspersky installation directory is stronger evidence of ownership than the filename alone. Do not overwrite every copy you find.
Check the file properties
Right-click the file, select Properties, and inspect:

- Details tab: description, product name, and version information
- Digital Signatures tab: signer and signature status
A valid Kaspersky signature and a path under a Kaspersky product directory support the file’s authenticity. A copy in a temporary folder, user profile, downloads folder, or unrelated application directory should be treated cautiously.
If the file exists but will not load, it may be corrupted, incompatible with the calling program, or the wrong architecture. A 32-bit historical copy cannot replace a 64-bit Kaspersky component.
Check the application that requests it
Look at the title bar or full error message. If it identifies an old Kaspersky executable, service, shortcut, or scheduled task, the problem may be an incomplete uninstall rather than a missing file needed by your current antivirus.
If the error actually names msvcp140.dll, vcruntime140.dll, or ucrtbase.dll, it is a different problem involving Microsoft Visual C++ components. Do not apply a klcp.dll fix to a different filename.

2. Restart Windows and check Installed apps
A failed update or locked file can produce a temporary loading error.
- Save your work.
- Select Start → Power → Restart.
- After Windows starts, open Settings.
- Select Apps → Installed apps.
- Search for Kaspersky.
- Expand the entry or select its three-dot menu.
If the product has Modify, Repair, or an update option, use it. Follow the installer prompts, restart Windows when requested, and test the same application that originally displayed the error.
If Kaspersky is not listed, continue with an official reinstall.
3. Repair or reinstall the matching Kaspersky product
The most likely permanent fix is to restore the Kaspersky installation that supplied klcp.dll.
- Identify the installed Kaspersky product from Settings → Apps → Installed apps, its Start menu entry, or the original program documentation.
- Obtain the installer from Kaspersky’s official download or product-support pages.
- Choose the installer for the matching product rather than a similarly named release.
- Run the installer.
- If offered, select Repair, Update, or Reinstall.
- Allow setup to replace damaged program files.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the original application again.
If the installer reports that Kaspersky is already installed but cannot repair it, remove the existing installation through Kaspersky’s documented Setup and Removal Wizard. Restart Windows, then install the correct package again.
Do not assume that a current Kaspersky installer contains the historical file used by an old Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal program. If an obsolete application specifically requires that older component, the correct source is its original installation media or Kaspersky support. A modern klcp.dll should not be copied into an old program folder.
How to tell whether repair worked
Repair succeeded when:
- The original application opens without the
klcp.dllmessage - The Kaspersky product opens normally
- A new copy appears in the expected Kaspersky installation path
- The file’s signature is valid
- No old service or shortcut continues requesting a removed component
If the same error returns immediately, note the executable named in the message. That executable may belong to an obsolete Kaspersky installation.

4. Check Kaspersky Quarantine
Kaspersky may have quarantined or removed the file after detecting a problem. Do not restore it solely because its name is klcp.dll.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Open the Kaspersky application.
- Open the main window or select Security.
- Select Quarantine.
- Find the relevant detection.
- Open its details.
- Check the original path and detection information.
- Restore the file only if the path, Kaspersky ownership, and digital signature are confirmed.
- Restart Windows and test the affected application.
Restoring a quarantined object can reintroduce malware. If there is any doubt, cancel the restore and reinstall the Kaspersky product instead. Do not create an antivirus exclusion until the file’s source and signature have been validated.
5. Remove an incomplete Kaspersky uninstall
If the error started after removing or upgrading Kaspersky, an orphaned component may still be trying to load the file.
Check these locations:
- Settings → Apps → Installed apps
- Task Manager → Startup apps
- Task Scheduler
- Services
To inspect scheduled tasks:
- Press Windows key, type
Task Scheduler, and open it. - Select Task Scheduler Library.
- Look for entries clearly associated with an old Kaspersky installation.
- Do not delete a task unless you have confirmed it belongs to the removed product.
To inspect services:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
text
services.msc
- Press Enter.
- Look for an orphaned Kaspersky service.
- Do not stop or delete security services unless you have identified the product and are following Kaspersky’s removal procedure.
An old shortcut can also cause this error. Right-click the shortcut, select Properties, and inspect Target. If it points to a removed Kaspersky directory, delete the obsolete shortcut or reinstall the application that still needs it.
6. Check for architecture and dependency problems
A file can be present and still fail to load.
Common causes include:
- A 32-bit application calling for a missing 32-bit Kaspersky library
- A 64-bit application receiving an incompatible 32-bit copy
- A file from a different Kaspersky release
- Corruption after an interrupted update
- A missing dependent library
- An invalid digital signature
Do not solve this by copying files between System32, SysWOW64, and application folders. Those directories serve different Windows architectures, and manual copying can create additional startup failures.
Recommended Free Tools
Reinstall the owning Kaspersky product so its installer places the correct build and dependencies together.
7. Run DISM and SFC only for Windows corruption
klcp.dll is associated with Kaspersky, not Windows. Therefore, System File Checker will not normally recreate it.

- PERSONAL INFO PROTECTION – Keep your personal info safer. Identity monitoring watches for your exposed info and tells you what to do about it.

Use Windows repair commands when Windows itself is malfunctioning, other protected Windows files are damaged, or several unrelated applications are failing.
- Open Start.
- Type
Terminal. - Right-click Windows Terminal and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
bat
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
bat
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that no integrity violations were found, that does not prove anything about a missing third-party Kaspersky file. Return to repairing or reinstalling Kaspersky.
Repeating DISM and SFC will not replace a Kaspersky component. If you want help identifying broader Windows corruption rather than manually hunting through system repairs, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for issues; its free scan shows what it found, while repair requires the full version. Reinstalling the Kaspersky product remains the definitive fix when that application owns klcp.dll.
8. Do not use regsvr32 routinely
Do not run this as a general repair:
regsvr32 klcp.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration functions such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a universal missing-DLL repair command, and there is no reliable evidence that every klcp.dll build is a self-registering COM component.
If you run it against an ordinary application library, Windows may report that the module was loaded but the entry point was not found. That does not mean the file needs registration. Repair the Kaspersky installation instead.
9. Update related software only when the error points there
Windows Features and Device Manager are not normal solutions for klcp.dll.
Do not enable random Windows Features or update unrelated drivers merely because a Kaspersky DLL is missing. Use Windows Features only when the error specifically identifies a missing Windows feature, and use Device Manager only when the same incident includes a hardware or driver failure.
To check drivers:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant device category.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
If a Kaspersky-related problem appeared alongside a hardware failure, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers; its free scan identifies possible issues, while driver installation requires the full version. It is not a substitute for reinstalling Kaspersky when klcp.dll belongs to that product.
10. If the error persists
Work through these checks in order:
- Capture the exact filename and complete error message.
- Identify the executable that displays it.
- Search for every
klcp.dllcopy. - Check each file’s path, details, architecture, and signature.
- Confirm whether Kaspersky is currently installed.
- Repair or reinstall the matching Kaspersky product.
- Remove orphaned shortcuts, services, or scheduled tasks.
- Run a full security scan if the file is unsigned or located somewhere unexpected.
- Use System Restore only if the failure clearly began after a recent system change. Back up important files first.
If a signed file exists but cannot load, the problem may be an incompatible old application or a missing dependency. If an unsigned copy exists, do not restore or move it. Quarantine it through your security software and reinstall the legitimate application.

Frequently asked questions
Is klcp.dll a Windows file?
No. Available evidence associates it with Kaspersky software. It should not normally be downloaded from Microsoft, placed in System32, or supplied by DirectX, .NET, or Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables.
Which Kaspersky product installs it?
A historically indexed build is associated with Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal. Other Kaspersky generations can use the same filename in different components, including later 64-bit installations. The path, signature, product, and architecture must be checked together.
Is klcp.dll 32-bit or 64-bit?
There is no single architecture for every copy. Historical records describe a 32-bit build, while Kaspersky catalogues also list 64-bit usage. Never substitute one architecture for the other.
Can I restore it from Quarantine?
Only after confirming its original path, Kaspersky ownership, and signature. Because restoring a detected object can reinfect the computer, reinstalling Kaspersky is safer when the file’s status is uncertain.

One-click scans. No signup required.
Will SFC restore klcp.dll?
Normally no. SFC repairs protected Windows system files, while klcp.dll is a third-party Kaspersky component.
Should I register it with regsvr32?
Normally no. regsvr32 applies to DLLs designed for registration and is not a general solution for missing application libraries.
What if the error began after uninstalling Kaspersky?
Look for an obsolete shortcut, service, scheduled task, or old application that still references the removed installation. Remove the residual component using Kaspersky’s documented removal process, or reinstall the application that still requires it.
What information should I provide when requesting further help?
Include the exact error text, the program that displays it, the Kaspersky product and version, the full file path, whether the file is signed, whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit, and what changed immediately before the error appeared.
