Spend when its featured fighter fills a real roster need or is a collection priority, its Rate Info is acceptable, and your Rubies plus event currency can reach a reward milestone before the banner ends. Otherwise, keep the currency for a better-aligned event. There is no officially established “correct” Ruby balance, universally best fighter, guaranteed result, or permanent Ruby BACK schedule.
The short answer: wait for a banner you can evaluate
KOF AFK’s official summon notices make Ruby spending an event-by-event decision rather than a permanent rule. A Pick-Up Summon may accept Rubies and a temporary event token, use one currency before the other, change rates by summon level, and attach cumulative rewards to the number of summons completed. Those details determine whether a pull is sensible. The banner’s end date matters just as much: a milestone you cannot reach before reset has less value than one you can complete now.
Use this order when deciding:
- Choose the outcome you want: a specific fighter, a role your team lacks, or a favorite for your collection.
- Open the live event notice and Rate Info panel. Confirm the featured target, summon-level rate, cumulative rewards, eligibility rules, and closing time.
- Count your Rubies and any event tokens, then compare them with the summons needed for the reward you actually want.
- Pull only if the target and reachable milestone justify spending the currency. If the numbers do not line up, save.
This approach avoids treating every limited banner, Premium Summon, shop exchange, or anniversary promotion as interchangeable.
What the official pickup rules actually tell you
Netmarble’s reviewed pickup-summon notice gives useful mechanics, but it does not establish a general October 2026 price, pity count, or recommended Ruby reserve. The following distinctions are important:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors| Rule or feature | What is established | What you must verify in the current event |
|---|---|---|
| Accepted currencies | The named event allowed Rubies or Halloween Fighter Tokens to perform Pick-Up Summons. | The token name, availability, and whether the current banner accepts a temporary currency. |
| Currency order | That event consumed event tokens before Rubies. | Whether the current event uses the same order. Do not generalize the Halloween rule. |
| Rates | Fighter summon rates varied by summon level. | Your account’s current summon level and the exact rates in Rate Info. |
| Cumulative rewards | Rewards were linked to the event’s cumulative summon count. | The current threshold, reward contents, and whether your planned pulls reach it. |
| Reset | The event’s summon count and cumulative reward opportunities reset when the event ended. | The precise end time and what, if anything, carries over. |
CM ATHENA, the KOF AFK community manager, described the event this way: “Rubies or Halloween Fighter Tokens can be used to perform Pick-Up Summons.” That statement applies to the named Halloween event, not automatically to every banner that follows it.
Start with a goal, not a Ruby number
Target a roster need
If your team lacks a damage dealer, defensive option, control effect, or another role, a featured fighter that addresses that gap can be worth more than a random pull. The official material does not rank one fighter as objectively best, so the useful question is how the target fits your account. Review your active formation, substitutes, duplicate requirements, and the content you are currently unable to clear. A banner that solves a specific bottleneck has a stronger case than one offering a powerful-looking unit you cannot use.
Target a personal collection goal
Saving for a favorite is also a valid goal. Collection value is personal, and the sources do not provide a universal ranking that should override it. Set a stopping rule before summoning: for example, decide whether obtaining the fighter once is enough or whether a cumulative reward is the real objective. A stopping rule prevents a near miss from turning into unplanned spending after the banner’s best value has already been secured.
Do not invent a universal reserve
No reviewed official source says that every player should save a particular number of Rubies. Account progression, summon level, event duration, token supply, and the reward threshold all change the calculation. A fixed target would imply certainty that the published rules do not provide.

Inspect the live banner before spending
Open the event screen rather than relying on a social post, an old screenshot, or a remembered Halloween notice. Check each item below in the same session in which you plan to summon:
- Featured fighter: verify the exact name, form, and pickup designation.
- Rate Info: read the current probability table and note whether rates differ by Fighter Summon Level.
- Summon level: identify the level your account will use for these pulls; a rate quoted for another level may not apply to you.
- Cumulative rewards: record the summon count required for the reward you value, not merely the headline reward.
- Event clock: note the closing date and time, including your server’s display or reset convention.
- Eligibility: check any account, mode, progression, or event conditions shown in the notice.
- Currency behavior: confirm accepted currencies and which one the game consumes first.
The October 2026 official forum listing shows event notices, but a listing does not publish the banner’s current costs, rates, milestones, or eligibility. The event screen and its Rate Info panel are the authoritative places for those account- and event-specific details.
Calculate whether your pulls reach a meaningful milestone
Do not ask only, “Can I afford one summon?” Ask, “What outcome can my available resources reliably reach before the reset?” Make a simple inventory of your current Rubies and event tokens. Then read the cumulative reward track and identify the next reward that would change your decision. If the threshold is not visible or you cannot determine the summon cost, do not guess; treat the milestone as unconfirmed.
#1 Best Overall
- Genre: Fighting
- ESRB Rating: Teen
For a practical check, write down:
- Rubies currently available;
- event tokens currently available;
- the cost of one summon or one multi-summon as displayed in the event;
- the number of summons already credited to the event;
- the next reward threshold and the remaining time.
Include only resources the event actually accepts. Premium Summon currency, League Shop currency, and Ranking Event Exchange Shop currency are separate routes; the official guidance does not provide a direct Ruby-to-premium-currency conversion. A balance in one system cannot be counted as if it were Rubies in another.
If you can reach a desired threshold with event tokens first and a defined Ruby remainder, decide in advance whether the remainder is worth spending. If you can make only a few pulls and receive neither the fighter nor a meaningful milestone, waiting is usually the more defensible choice because the official rules do not promise a guaranteed result.

Use temporary event tokens carefully
In the reviewed Halloween pickup event, Halloween Fighter Tokens were consumed before Rubies. That ordering can make a planned pull cheaper in Rubies, but it is not a permanent KOF AFK rule. Every new event may use a different token, accept different currencies, or set a different consumption order.
Before tapping summon, confirm that the token balance shown on the event screen is the balance being consumed. If the game displays a token expiry date, include it in your decision; if no expiry or carry-over rule is shown, do not assume tokens transfer to a later banner. The safe practice is to follow the current notice exactly and avoid spending Rubies to replace a token-funded pull when the event already says tokens are used first.
Account for Fighter Summon Level
The reviewed official notice says fighter summon rates vary by summon level and directs players to the Rate Info panel. This means a rate copied from another player, an older guide, or a different account may not describe your pull. Open Rate Info from the live event screen after confirming your current level, and compare the displayed probability with the value of the target to your roster.

Because no current October rate table is established here, do not fill the gap with an assumed percentage. If the event offers a rate increase at a higher summon level, determine whether your planned activity reaches that level before the banner ends. A higher displayed rate can matter only if your account reaches the relevant level under the event’s rules; it is not a reason to spend blindly to chase an unknown threshold.
Compare Pick-Up Summons with Premium Summon and shops
Premium Summon
Netmarble’s Premium Summon guidance describes a separate feature that unlocks at Fighter Summon Level 5, uses a special currency, and lets the player choose a pickup target. Those characteristics make it a distinct saving route. If your account is approaching level 5 or already has access, compare the target choice and currency requirement shown in Premium Summon with the opportunity cost of the live Ruby banner. The source does not state a Ruby exchange rate for this currency, so there is no sound way to convert a Ruby budget into a Premium Summon budget.
League Shop and Ranking Event Exchange Shop
The same guidance names the League Shop and Ranking Event Exchange Shop as places to find certain Orochi Fighters. A fighter obtainable through a shop may justify saving the relevant shop currency instead of spending Rubies on a less certain route. Check the current shop inventory, exchange cost, refresh rules, and availability in your account. Do not assume that every Orochi Fighter, or every version of one, is present at all times.

How to treat anniversary and Ruby BACK promotions
Netmarble announced a 500,000-Ruby first-anniversary thank-you gift in August 2026, together with temporary Ruby BACK and summon promotions. The announcement said Fighters Festa ran from August 20 through September 16. Those dates make the announcement historical context as of October 13, 2026, not evidence of a current offer or normal Ruby income.

When a future promotion appears, read its start and end dates, claim conditions, eligible summon types, and refund timing. A past 500,000-Ruby giveaway cannot be used to forecast how many Rubies you will earn, and “Ruby BACK” should not be treated as permanent unless the live notice says so. Keep promotional Rubies in your calculation only when the current event has actually credited them or clearly states when they become usable.

Consequently, a responsible October decision must remain conditional. Open the specific notice in your game, inspect Rate Info, and verify the event timer. Do not treat a forum-listing title as proof that a fighter is currently summonable on your account, that a named event has the same rules as Halloween, or that a promotion is still active.

Practical spending playbooks
You need the featured fighter now
Confirm that the fighter addresses a real team need, read the rate for your summon level, and set a hard Ruby limit before pulling. Use accepted event tokens first when the current notice says they are consumed first. Stop at the limit or at your predetermined success condition; do not escalate because the next pull feels “due.” The official rules describe rates and cumulative counts, not a guaranteed outcome.
You want the fighter but cannot reach the milestone
Compare the value of a few unconnected pulls with the value of retaining Rubies for a banner whose threshold you can reach. If the event does not offer a reward you value before your resources run out, saving is the clearer choice. Recheck the timer and any incoming event currency before the banner closes, but do not count unconfirmed rewards.
You are saving for Premium Summon
Keep Ruby and Premium currencies separate in your notes. Confirm that Fighter Summon Level 5 is unlocked or realistically reachable under the game’s displayed progression, then compare the chosen pickup target and special-currency requirement with the current Ruby banner. The absence of a published conversion means this is a strategic comparison, not a mathematical exchange.
You are a collector
Prioritize the banner containing the character you actually want, then define whether one copy, a milestone, or a specific duplicate count is your endpoint. Collection goals can justify spending even when a different fighter might be more useful, but the endpoint must be explicit so the event does not consume your entire reserve by default.
You are unsure
Do nothing until the uncertainty is resolved. A missing rate table, unclear reset, unknown eligibility condition, or unverified milestone is a reason to inspect the notice—not a reason to assume the most favorable interpretation.
Quick Recap
Common Ruby-spending mistakes
- Using an old rate: rates can vary by summon level, so a number from another account or event may be irrelevant.
- Assuming every token works the same way: Halloween Fighter Tokens were event-specific, and their first-use order cannot be generalized.
- Ignoring the reset: cumulative progress and reward opportunities in the reviewed event ended and reset with the event.
- Counting a historical giveaway as income: the 500,000-Ruby anniversary gift was a dated 2026 promotion, not a normal allowance.
- Mixing currencies: Premium Summon’s special currency and shop currencies are not published as Ruby equivalents.
- Chasing a miss: no official source guarantees that additional pulls produce the featured fighter.
- Reading only the event title: a forum listing does not prove current cost, rates, milestones, or account eligibility.
A final pre-pull checklist
- Write down the fighter or reward you are pursuing.
- Open the current event notice from inside the game.
- Read Rate Info for your actual Fighter Summon Level.
- Record the cumulative threshold and the event’s closing time.
- Confirm accepted currencies and their consumption order.
- Separate Rubies, event tokens, Premium currency, and shop currency.
- Calculate the summons you can complete without assuming future income.
- Set a stopping point before the first pull.
- Spend only if the target and reachable reward justify the cost.
The best Ruby use is therefore conditional: spend on a live, understandable Pick-Up Summon that serves your account or collection goal and whose rewards you can reach in time. Preserve the rest when the banner’s terms, target, or milestone do not clear that standard.
