In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, there are 1,000 Korok Seeds at 900 locations across Hyrule’s Surface and Sky. Most Koroks award one seed; 100 paired-Korok reunion puzzles award two apiece. Use a Tears of the Kingdom map or regional checklist for these locations—Breath of the Wild has a different set.
Which game’s Korok Seed locations do you need?
Both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom feature Korok Seeds, but their location sets are not interchangeable. The regional location guide linked here covers Tears of the Kingdom; do not use its markers or directions as a guide to the 2017 game.
Nintendo’s Play Nintendo tips for Tears of the Kingdom explain that seeds can be traded to Hestu for extra inventory slots. For Breath of the Wild, Nintendo’s Explorer’s Guide covers Hestu and Korok Seed collection, but it is not a complete Tears of the Kingdom location atlas.
How many Korok Seeds are in Tears of the Kingdom?
Nintendo Life’s guide, published September 7, 2023, counts 1,000 seeds at 900 locations: 800 locations award one seed, while 100 paired-Korok puzzles award two seeds each. This is the guide’s reported total, not a separately audited official Nintendo statistical count.

The locations are divided between the Surface and Sky. The guide reports no Koroks in the Depths, so searching that region for Korok locations is unnecessary.
Where to find the Tears of the Kingdom locations
Nintendo Life’s Tears of the Kingdom Korok Seed guide organizes markers by Hyrule region and separates Surface from Sky coverage. Use the regional breakdown to focus on one area at a time and consult each location’s puzzle instruction rather than treating every marker as a simple pickup.

A community map can be another navigation option, but check how it distinguishes the layers. The Tears of the Kingdom Map project on GitHub says its source location data does not directly identify Sky versus Surface. It uses elevation above 800 as a heuristic for Sky placement, and cautions that a marker shown as land may still be on a low-hanging island. Treat the layer as a guide, not definitive confirmation of elevation category.
How to recognize Korok puzzles
Look for something out of place in the environment. Nintendo’s tips call out a stone ring with one missing stone and backpack-wearing Koroks who need help reaching a friend. Other puzzle clues documented in Nintendo Life’s guide include:

- A suspicious rock to lift, an incomplete rock pattern, or a trail of flowers to follow.
- A moving light to chase or an unusual stationary sparkle to inspect.
- Balloons or hidden jars to shoot, or a ring of water lilies to dive through.
- Offering bowls with food to match, or a bell to ring.
- A block arrangement to solve with Ultrahand, or a stump to pass through with Ascend.
- A stranded Korok with a backpack who must be transported to a nearby friend.
The action depends on the clue: a puzzle may call for Ultrahand, Ascend, fire, or a bow, among other interactions. In a paired-Korok reunion, getting one Korok to its friend completes the puzzle and awards two seeds.

Trade seeds with Hestu to expand Link’s weapon, bow, and shield inventory capacity. Nintendo’s official guidance describes the reward as extra inventory slots; it does not provide a full location atlas.

How to track locations without backtracking
Work through a regional list or interactive checklist and mark each completed location as you go. Before relying on any map or companion tool, check its game coverage, puzzle detail, progress tracking, and offline availability.
The App Store listing for the third-party, unofficial Tears Companion App says it includes Surface, Sky, and Depths maps, Korok puzzle solutions, region and type filters, completion tracking, and map data that works offline after download. Those are features stated by the listing; availability and app details may change.
