The outage began on February 7, 2025, and service was restored on the evening of February 8, after nearly 24 hours, according to GameSpot’s account. Sony described the cause as an “operational issue.” The cited report provides no more specific technical explanation, so claims about a particular failure or cause are not established.

Sony said PlayStation Plus members would automatically receive five additional days of service. That was Sony’s subscription compensation for the outage, separate from Krispy Kreme’s short-lived doughnut promotion. Sony’s statement, reproduced by GameSpot on February 9, 2025, said services had fully recovered and apologized for the inconvenience.
